IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Outplay Rajasthan Royals in High-Octane Super Over Finish
Delhi Capitals edged past Rajasthan Royals in a thrilling Super Over clash after both teams finished with 188 runs in the regular 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a Super Over in the 32nd match of IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Delhi Capitals posted a total of 188/5 and successfully restricted Rajasthan Royals to 188/4 in 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel was run out on the last ball of Rajasthan’s innings, which pushed the match into a Super Over. Rajasthan scored 11/2 in the Super Over, but KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs easily chased down the target, securing the win for Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals Blazing Start

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel opened for Delhi Capitals. Jofra Archer started with the ball for RR. Fraser-McGurk hit back-to-back boundaries in the first over. Porel added a single. DC scored 10 runs in the opening over. Tushar Deshpande bowled the second over. Porel went after him aggressively. He smashed 4, 4, 6, 4, 4 on consecutive deliveries. DC reached 33/0 after two overs.

Early Breakthroughs

Archer got the first wicket in the third over. He dismissed Fraser-McGurk for 9 runs. Karun Nair came in at No. 3. Archer gave away only 1 run in that over. In the next over, Sandeep Sharma bowled Nair out with a run-out on the first ball. Nair was dismissed without scoring. KL Rahul came in at No. 4. After four overs, DC were at 37/2.

Theekshana and Sandeep Sharma bowled two tight overs. DC added only 9 runs in those overs. After the powerplay, DC stood at 46/2. Porel was on 30 off 17 balls, while Rahul had 7 from 10.

Rajasthan Tightens Grip

KL Rahul struck a six in the 7th over, bringing DC's total to 50. Hasaranga kept it tight in the 8th over, giving just 4 runs. DC were 60/2 after 8 overs. In the 9th, Rahul hit a boundary. Hasaranga returned for the 10th over. Porel ended that over with a four. At the halfway mark, DC were 76/2. Porel was batting on 40, and Rahul on 27. From overs 3 to 10, RR's bowlers slowed the scoring. DC managed just 43 runs in 8 overs and lost two wickets.

Steady Middle Overs

In the 11th over, Rahul hit a six to complete a 50-run stand with Porel. Parag bowled the 12th and gave away 6 runs. Archer returned in the 13th and removed Rahul for 38. Stubbs came in at No. 5. DC were 98/3.

Stubbs smashed a six in Hasaranga's 14th over, taking DC to 100. However, Hasaranga dismissed Porel on 49. Axar Patel came in at No. 6. After 14 overs, DC stood at 106/4.

Axar, Stubbs Lift Delhi

Deshpande gave just 5 runs in the 15th. Axar Patel took charge in the 16th over. He hit two fours and a six. DC got 19 runs from that over. In the 17th, Axar continued his attack. He again hit two fours and a six but fell on the last ball to Theekshana. He scored 34 off 14. Ashutosh Sharma came in. DC reached 146/5.

Stubbs and Ashutosh struck boundaries in Archer’s 19th over. DC crossed 150 and scored 16 runs in the over. Sandeep bowled the 20th, leaking 19 runs, including four wides and a no-ball. Stubbs hit a six and a four. DC finished on 188/5. Stubbs remained unbeaten on 34 off 18. Ashutosh scored 15* from 11 balls.

Rajasthan Starts Chase with Confidence

Jaiswal and Samson opened for RR. Starc bowled the first over and gave only 1 run. Mukesh Kumar bowled the second. Both batters hit a six each. RR reached 15 after two overs.

Jaiswal took charge in the 3rd, smashing two boundaries and a six. RR were 35/0 after 3 overs. Samson hit a six in the next over. After 4 overs, RR were 45/0.

Samson Retires Hurt

Mohit Sharma came in for the 5th. Ashutosh dropped Samson, who completed the 50-run stand with Jaiswal. Vipraj Nigam bowled the 6th. Samson hit a six and a four but then retired hurt on 31 from 19. Riyan Parag replaced him. RR were 63/0 after the powerplay.

Axar bowled a tight 7th over, giving only 2 runs. In the 8th, Parag hit a four and Jaiswal a six. Axar came back for the 9th and dismissed Parag for 5. Nitish Rana came to bat. RR reached 82/1 after 9. Jaiswal hit a six and a four in the 10th, taking RR to 94/1. He was on 45, while Rana had 6.

Jaiswal, Rana Keep Royals in the Game

Kuldeep and Mohit bowled the next two overs tightly. Jaiswal completed his fifty in the 12th over from 34 balls. Rana added a boundary. RR reached 111/1 after 13 overs. Kuldeep broke the stand in the 14th, dismissing Jaiswal for 51. Dhruv Jurel joined Rana. Axar bowled the 15th and Stubbs dropped Rana, who responded with a six and two fours. RR were 132/2.

Rana dominated Kuldeep in the 16th with two fours and a six. RR got 13 runs from that over. Mohit bowled the 17th. Jurel hit a six and took RR past 150. Rana completed his fifty on the last ball of the over. RR were 158/2. Starc returned in the 18th and dismissed Rana for 51. Hetmyer joined Jurel and hit a boundary. RR were 166/3.

Final Overs Drama

In the 19th over, Rizvi dropped Jurel, who then smashed a six. RR reached 180/3. With 8 needed off the last over, Starc bowled a tight one. He conceded 8 runs and run out Jurel on the final ball. The match went into a Super Over. Jurel scored 26 off 17. Hetmyer remained not out on 15 off 9.

Super Over

Rajasthan Royals batted first in the Super Over. Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag came out to bat. Mitchell Starc bowled the crucial over. The first ball was a dot. Hetmyer hit the second ball for a boundary and took a single on the third. Parag hit a boundary on the fourth ball, which was also a no-ball. He got run out on the free hit, and then Jaiswal was run out on the next delivery. Rajasthan Royals finished at 11/2 in 0.5 overs, losing two wickets.

Sandeep Sharma bowled the Super Over for Rajasthan Royals. KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs came in to bat for Delhi Capitals. Rahul took 2 runs on the first ball and smashed a boundary on the second. He took a single on the third. Stubbs then went aerial and hit a six to seal the win in style. Delhi Capitals scored 13/0 in 0.4 overs. Delhi Capitals won the Super Over and the match.

Abhishek Porel gave Delhi Capitals a blazing start but then slowed down, although he played a solid knock. KL Rahul ensured stability during the middle overs. Rajasthan bowlers tightened their grip for about 8–10 overs. However, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs came to the crease and changed the momentum. Both played fiery innings and took the total to 188/5. Sandeep Sharma, however, bowled four wides and a no-ball in the 20th over, which eventually cost Rajasthan Royals the match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson gave Rajasthan Royals a flying start. After Sanju retired hurt, Nitish Rana came in to bat. He played cautiously at first but took charge once Jaiswal got out. Everything seemed to go Rajasthan’s way, and luck was on their side too. Delhi Capitals dropped almost 4–5 catches, any one of which could have changed the game and avoided the Super Over. Then came Mitchell Starc’s 20th over.
