Shruti Haasan, who has acted in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films, recently opened up about her early career struggles in an interview. She shared how she was considered "unlucky" after her first two films failed at the box office.
Early Challenges
At the beginning of her career, Shruti faced a harsh perception. She explained, “They had this whole myth in Telugu that I am unlucky, because my first two films didn’t work. But they didn’t realise that the first two films had the same hero. And they were like ‘We don’t want her.’” Her first two films were Anaganaga O Dheerudu and Oh My Friend, which, unfortunately, didn’t perform well when they released in 2011.
Pawan Kalyan’s Support
However, things began to change when Pawan Kalyan believed in her talent. She continued, “Then Pawan Kalyan sir was like ‘no, we get her.’ And my whole career trajectory changed. Suddenly, Bombay started looking, and Tamil started looking. Do you know what I mean? It’s just the people and how they believe in you. It translates even creatively when they believe you can carry something off. And they are collaborative and communicative. It makes a difference.”
Thanks to Pawan Kalyan’s support, Shruti’s career took off, especially with her role in Gabbar Singh (2012). The film, a remake of Dabangg (2010), became a massive box-office hit.
Upcoming Projects
Looking ahead, Shruti is excited about her next film, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, starring Rajinikanth, is set to release on August 14.
