Elon Musk Steps Back From Regular White House Visits, Remains Involved Remotely
Elon Musk has stepped back from daily visits to the White House but continues to advise the government remotely.

Elon Musk is no longer regularly present at the White House, according to a report by the New York Post. The Tesla CEO had been serving as an unpaid special government employee under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However, he has now reduced his physical presence at the White House, though he still contributes remotely.

Continued Involvement Via Phone

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles said Musk remains active in government work despite not showing up in person.
“Instead of meeting with him in person, I’m talking to him on the phone, but it’s the same net effect,” she told The Post while marking Trump’s 100th day in office. “He hasn’t been here physically, but it really doesn’t matter much.”

Musk Played Key Role in Trump’s Early Days

In the early days of Trump’s administration, Musk had a visible presence. He briefed the president in the Oval Office, joined cabinet meetings, and even traveled on Air Force One. He helped push efforts to cut the federal deficit by $1 trillion and led initiatives to reorganize government agencies. Although the government has not revealed exactly how much money was saved under DOGE, Musk's work aimed at cutting costs across several departments. His efforts included targeting the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Musk’s Team Still Active Nearby

Wiles confirmed that Musk’s staff continues to work out of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is close to the White House.
“He’s not out of it altogether... He’ll be stepping back a little, but he’s certainly not abandoning it,” she told the New York Post.

Shifting Focus Back to Tesla

Last week, during Tesla’s earnings call, Musk said he plans to spend more time focusing on his company. He told investors, “I would be allocating far more of my time to Tesla” starting next month. However, he also mentioned that DOGE’s core structure is now in place and he would still contribute part-time. He added, “a day or two a week” would be spent on government work “as long as it is useful.”
