Reality TV star of entertainment world Taylor Armstrong, known for her appearances on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and later The Real Housewives of Orange County, has spoken out about the abuse she suffered during her marriage to Russell Armstrong. In a recent episode of Max’s docuseries Hollywood Demons, Taylor shared heartbreaking details of her past.
A Marriage That Turned Violent
Taylor married Russell Armstrong in 2005. A year later, they welcomed their daughter Kennedy. But behind closed doors, Taylor faced constant emotional and physical abuse. Russell eventually died by suicide in 2011, but nearly 14 years later, Taylor is ready to talk about what she went through.
Attack at a Friend’s House
One of the most shocking incidents she recalled took place at a friend’s home. While visiting a couple who were close to her, Taylor opened up about her troubled marriage. She thought Russell had left the house. “Russell, he left, and this couple, they were very close to me and were very aware of what was going on. The man said, ‘We’ll help you get out of this because this is not okay, and we’re really worried for you,’” she said.
But Russell had been hiding nearby and heard everything. Furious, he stormed into the backyard. Taylor recounted, “He came flying into the backyard. He threw me in the pool. He grabbed the man, knocked all of his teeth out, jumped in the pool, and he was trying to hold me under the water. I thought he was going to drown me.”
Violence Over Pizza
In another disturbing incident, Taylor said Russell attacked her over a pizza she had made for his sons from a previous relationship. He became angry because the pizza didn’t include vegetables. “He came into the house, grabbed me by the throat, and put me up against the wall. He said, ‘If you ever serve my kids a pizza without a vegetable again, I’ll kill you,’” she recalled.
Living Under Surveillance
As the abuse continued, Taylor discovered another shocking truth. She found out that Russell had placed recording devices around their home. She realized he had been spying on her constantly, and she no longer felt safe in her own house.
The Final Blow
Taylor described the moment she decided to leave for good. It happened during her 40th birthday. Russell had taken her to the Four Seasons Hotel and given her eight pairs of shoes and a long letter. In the card, he admitted he had been a bad husband and promised things would improve. However, the night ended in violence.
After they returned from the birthday party, they were lying in bed when Russell accused her of cheating during a bachelorette trip to Las Vegas, which was filmed by Bravo. Taylor recalled, “He said something to the effect of, ‘I know you slept with the Chippendales when you were in Vegas.’” He continued accusing her and wouldn’t let it go. Eventually, she said, “He raised up, leaned over like this, and punched me. He fractured my orbital floor, and so I went to see the doctor, and Russell went with me.”
Time to Leave
That injury required reconstructive surgery. It also made Taylor realize that she could no longer stay in the marriage. She filed for divorce in July 2011. One month later, Russell took his own life. Speaking about his suicide, Taylor said, “There were a myriad of things that he was very concerned about, but I never thought that he would kill himself. Suicide never crossed my mind.”
Finding Strength in Her Story
Taylor’s story is both painful and powerful. By sharing what happened, she is helping others understand the impact of domestic violence. Her courage in speaking out serves as a reminder that no one should suffer in silence.
