India's air defence shot down a Pakistani fighter jet in the Pathankot sector, according to ANI. Additionally, Indian Army air defence units destroyed two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to defence sources, “Heavy exchange of artillery fire is on between the two sides in the sector.”
Earlier, India launched Operation Sindoor to retaliate for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. As a result, tensions with Pakistan grew quickly.
Pakistan Launched New Attacks
On Thursday, Pakistan attempted to hit Indian military bases using drones and missiles in Jammu and Pathankot. However, Indian defence systems intercepted and stopped the attacks. Moreover, India had already blocked similar attempts in 15 other locations across northern and western India.
India Strikes Pakistani Targets
Before these fresh attacks, India destroyed a Pakistani air defence unit in Lahore. Following that, Pakistan began heavy shelling along the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
Explosions Trigger Power Outages
Later that evening, India intercepted at least eight Pakistani missiles aimed at Jammu, including the crucial Satwari airport. Even so, two loud blasts caused a sudden power outage in Jammu. Sirens rang out as residents took shelter. Similarly, Jaisalmer experienced massive explosions. Authorities enforced blackouts across border districts in western Rajasthan.
India Targets Terror Bases in Pakistan and PoK
Earlier on Wednesday, Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor.
Government Warns Pakistan
The Ministry of Defence stated, “Any attack on Indian military sites would provoke a suitable response.”
Furthermore, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “Pakistan alone holds the responsibility for deciding whether to de-escalate tensions with India,” adding that India only reacted to the "original escalation" caused by the Pahalgam massacre.
India Boosts Air Defence Systems
To counter Pakistan’s intrusion attempts, India deployed the S-400 missile defence system, surface-to-air missiles, and an integrated anti-drone system.
