Listeria Outbreak Sickens 10 People in the U.S.
A listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat foods sickened 10 people in the U.S., prompting a voluntary recall by Fresh & Ready Foods.

At least 10 people in the United States became sick after eating ready-to-eat food products contaminated with listeria, according to federal officials. As a result, the producer has started a voluntary recall of several items.

FDA Links Illnesses to California-Based Company

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Saturday that the outbreak is tied to foods made by Fresh & Ready Foods LLC, located in San Fernando, California.

So far, the FDA confirmed that all 10 sick individuals were from California and Nevada, and all of them needed hospital treatment.

Contaminated Items Sold in Multiple States

The FDA revealed that the tainted food products were sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington. These items were available not just in stores, but also in hospitals, hotels, convenience stores, airports, and airlines.

Listeria Causes Serious Illness

Typically, listeria symptoms start within two weeks after someone eats contaminated food.

People may suffer from fever, muscle aches, nausea, tiredness, vomiting, or diarrhea in mild cases. However, in more serious cases, symptoms may include headaches, stiff neck, confusion, balance problems, or seizures.

FDA Reopens Investigation After New Discovery

Initially, the FDA began looking into the outbreak last year but couldn’t find enough proof to identify the source. However, in April 2025, they reopened the case after finding listeria in samples taken from Fresh & Ready Foods.
