IPL 2025 | MI vs DC: Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals Clash in Do-or-Die Playoff Battle
Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals face a must-win clash at Wankhede, with a playoff spot on the line and rain looming as a potential game-changer.

Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in 63rd match of IPL 2025 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This match holds high stakes for both sides. If MI win, they will seal the final playoff spot. Meanwhile, DC must win to stay alive in the tournament.

MI Hold the Upper Hand

Currently, MI have the edge. They sit one point ahead of DC on the table. Additionally, their net run rate of +1.156 is much better than DC’s +0.260. Therefore, a victory will confirm their place in the top four. On the other hand, a loss will knock DC out of contention.

Even if DC win this game, they cannot relax. They will still need to watch MI’s last match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) to know their own fate.

Momentum Favors Mumbai

So far, MI have shown excellent form. They have won six of their last seven matches. In contrast, DC started the season well but have struggled recently. As a result, their campaign now hangs by a thread.

Head-to-Head Record

When it comes to past meetings, MI lead the rivalry. Since 2008, they have won 20 out of 36 matches. DC have won 16. Furthermore, at the Wankhede Stadium, MI dominate with a 7-3 lead. However, in the last five matches, DC have won three times.

Team Changes and Updates

Recently, MI made key changes. They brought in Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Charith Asalanka. These players replaced Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch, who will soon leave for national duties.

Given their current form, MI are unlikely to alter their playing XI. Meanwhile, DC may make a bold move. They could drop Faf du Plessis and bring in young left-hander Sediqullah Atal.

Pitch and Weather Report

Wankhede’s pitch has favored batters this season. So far, teams have averaged 182 runs across six games. Moreover, chasing teams have won four of those matches.

However, rain could play a role. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai for the next four days. In response, DC co-owner Parth Jindal said, "We should move the match to another city if rain threatens."

What If Rain Washes the Match Out?

If rain forces a washout, it will boost MI’s chances. Both teams will get one point each. This outcome will take MI to 15 points and DC to 14.

Then, MI’s final game against PBKS will be crucial. If MI beat PBKS, DC will be eliminated—regardless of their own result.

Delhi’s Only Chance

For DC to qualify, two things must happen. First, they need to beat MI. Second, if the match is washed out, they must hope that PBKS defeat MI in the last round. Only then can DC stay in the playoff race.
