IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans Suffer Crushing Defeat as CSK Sign Off in Style
Chennai Super Kings crushed Gujarat Titans by 83 runs, denting their top-two hopes in IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crushed Gujarat Titans (GT) by 83 runs in the 67th match of IPL 2025, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. CSK posted 230/5 on the board, powered by a blazing half-century from Devon Conway and a quick-fire fifty from Dewald Brevis.

While chasing, Gujarat Titans lost Gill, Buttler, and Rutherford within the first six overs. Only Sai Sudharshan showed some resistance against the dangerous bowling of Anshul Kamboj (3/13 in 2.3 overs) and Noor Ahmad (3/21 in 4 overs).

Gujarat Titans were bowled out for 147 runs and lost the match by a big margin. Although CSK are already out of the playoff race, they spoiled Gujarat Titans' chances of securing a top-two finish. Now, GT's position depends on the results of other matches. Moreover, the heavy defeat further dented their net run rate.

Mhatre Attacks Early

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat. Devon Conway and Ayush Mhatre opened the innings. Mohammed Siraj started the bowling for Gujarat Titans. Mhatre got going with a boundary. The first over yielded 6 runs.

Arshad Khan bowled the second over. Mhatre went after him, smashing two sixes, two fours, and another six to end the over. CSK added 28 runs from it. Siraj returned for the third over. Conway picked up two boundaries. CSK reached 44/0 in 3 overs.

Titans Strike Back

Finishing Flourish

Jadeja and Brevis rotated strike before Brevis exploded. He hit a six in the 16th over. Then in the 17th over, he smashed a four and a six. In the 18th over, Jadeja hit a six, and Brevis added a boundary. CSK crossed 200.

In the 19th over, Brevis blasted two sixes and a four. He brought up his fifty in just 19 balls. That over alone yielded 20 runs. In the final over, he hit another six but fell for 57 off 23 balls. Jadeja stayed unbeaten on 21. CSK posted a mammoth 230/5 in 20 overs.

GT Lose Wickets Early

Chasing 231, Gujarat Titans opened with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. Jadeja started the bowling for CSK. He gave away 7 runs. Khaleel Ahmed came in next. Both openers hit a boundary.

However, Anshul Kamboj removed Gill for 13 in the 3rd over. Buttler walked in and got off the mark with two runs. GT were 27/1. Khaleel struck in the next over, dismissing Buttler for 5. GT slipped to 29/2.

Kamboj returned and got Rutherford out for a duck. Shahrukh Khan joined Sudharsan. GT were 30/3 after 5 overs. Khaleel bowled a tight sixth over. Sudharsan hit a boundary, and GT moved to 35/3 at the end of the powerplay.

Small Recovery, Then More Trouble

Jadeja conceded 9 runs in the 7th over. Dube gave 10 runs in the 8th over, including a six from Shahrukh. Noor Ahmad gave 8 runs in the 9th over. In the 10th over, Sudharsan struck back-to-back fours, and Shahrukh added a six. The duo brought up a 50-run stand. GT were 85/3.

Brief Scorecard

Chennai Super Kings (CSK): 230/5 (20)
Dewald Brevis 57(23), Devon Conway 52(35), Urvil Patel 37(19);
Prasidh Krishna 2/22(4), Shahrukh Khna 1/13(1)
Gujarat Titans (GT): 147 (18.3)
Sai Sudharshan 41(28), Arshad Khan 20(14), Shahrukh Khan 19(15);
Anshul Kamboj 3/13(2.3), Noor Ahmad 3/21(4)
Player of the Match: Dewald Brevis

Ayush Mhatre gave a flying start to Chennai Super Kings, although he failed to capitalise on it. Devon Conway played a superb innings and supported his partner throughout. Dewald Brevis played a blinder at the end and helped Chennai post the highest total of the season. Prasidh Krishna bowled well, but the other bowlers failed to make an impact. It was one of those matches where the middle order and tail of Gujarat Titans were exposed, and they had no answers to the opposition’s bowling. Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj bowled really well, and their spells pushed Gujarat Titans onto the back foot. Ravindra Jadeja also took two wickets in his overs. Sai Sudharsan was the only batsman who showed some resistance to the CSK bowlers.

Gujarat Titans need to work on their middle-order batting before heading into the playoffs. Unfortunately for CSK, the good performances have come too late in the season, when things are already out of their hands. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
