IPL 2025: Punjab Kings Cruise Past Mumbai Indians by 7 Wickets, Book Place in Qualifier 1
Punjab Kings cruised to a 7-wicket win over Mumbai Indians to secure a top-two finish in IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets with 9 balls to spare in the 69th match of IPL 2025. The match took place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Mumbai Indians posted 184/7, thanks to a blazing half-century by Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir added some late fireworks. Punjab Kings chased down the target easily, powered by explosive half-centuries from Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis, who shared a 100-run partnership. Inglis was dismissed in the 18th over. Shreyas Iyer sealed the victory with a six, securing their place in the top two. Now, they will play in Qualifier 1 on May 29, while Mumbai Indians will play in Eliminator 1 on May 30.

MI Off to a Steady Start

Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma opened for Mumbai Indians. Arshdeep Singh started the bowling. Rickelton hit a boundary in the first over as MI scored 8 runs. Kyle Jamieson bowled the second over. Rohit opened his account with a single, while Rickelton added two more boundaries.

Marco Jansen bowled the third over. Rohit ended the over with a four. MI reached 23/0 after three overs.

Arshdeep returned for the fourth over. Rickelton struck two more boundaries, collecting 9 runs. In the fifth over, Harpreet Brar conceded a four and a six to Rohit. Then, Jansen removed Rickelton on the first ball of the sixth over. He scored 27 off 20. Suryakumar Yadav walked in and hit a boundary to bring up MI’s 50. After six overs, MI were 52/1. Rohit stood at 17* (12), and SKY was at 5* (4).

Brar Gets Rohit, SKY Takes Charge

Vyshak Vijaykumar gave away only 3 runs in the seventh over. Brar continued and conceded a boundary to SKY in the eighth over. MI moved to 64/1. In the ninth over, SKY took charge with two fours and a six off Jamieson. In the 10th over, Brar dismissed Rohit for 24 off 21. Tilak Varma came in and opened his account. MI were 83/2 at halfway.

MI Lose Momentum

Vyshak struck again in the 11th over. He removed Tilak for 1. Will Jacks arrived and immediately attacked. He hit two fours in the 12th over off Jansen. MI crossed 100. However, Vyshak removed Jacks in the 13th over after he hit a six. He scored 17 off 8. Hardik Pandya came in next and survived a tough chance. He opened with a single. MI reached 113/4.

Brar returned in the 14th over, and Pandya smashed a six. MI collected 10 runs. In the 15th over, Arshdeep gave away a four to Pandya. MI stood at 131/4.

SKY, Pandya Lift the Score

Jamieson bowled the 16th over. Pandya hit a boundary, and SKY launched a six. They added 13 runs. In the 17th over, Jansen conceded a six to Pandya but dismissed him next ball. Pandya scored 26 off 15. Naman Dhir came in and started with a double. MI were 153/5.

Jamieson bowled a tight 18th over, giving just 5 runs. Nehal Wadhera dropped SKY on the last ball.

Vyshak bowled the 19th over. Dhir hammered two sixes, and SKY completed his fifty in 34 balls. He ended the over with a boundary as MI scored 23 runs. Arshdeep bowled the final over. He dismissed Dhir for 20 off 12 on the first ball and removed SKY on the last. SKY made 57 off 39. MI posted 184/7.

PBKS Begin the Chase Strongly

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened for PBKS. Trent Boult bowled the first over. Arya hit two boundaries as 10 runs came from it. Deepak Chahar bowled a maiden second over. Arya struck a boundary again in Boult’s third over. PBKS reached 18/0.

Chahar returned for the fourth over. Prabhsimran hit a six and a four, while Arya added another boundary. Bumrah removed Prabhsimran in the fifth over for 13 off 16. Josh Inglis joined Arya. PBKS stood at 35/1. Inglis smashed a six in the next over, while Arya added a four. PBKS were 47/1 after six overs. Arya had 24* (12), and Inglis had 8* (8).

Inglis, Arya Dominate the Middle Overs

Mitchell Santner bowled the seventh over. Arya welcomed him with a four, and Inglis added a six. PBKS crossed 50. In the eighth over, both batters struck again. Arya hit a four, and Inglis launched another six off Pandya. PBKS moved to 75/1.

In the ninth over, Inglis hit a boundary, and the duo completed a 50-run stand. PBKS scored 9 runs in that over. Bumrah returned for the tenth over. Inglis added another four. PBKS were cruising at 89/1. Arya had 37* (21), and Inglis was at 35* (23).

PBKS Batters Reach Fifties

Ashwani Kumar came into the attack in 11th over. Inglis struck three back-to-back boundaries. PBKS crossed 100 in the over, adding 16 runs. In the 12th over, Inglis reached his fifty in 29 balls. Arya followed with his fifty off 27 balls, hitting a four and a six. PBKS added 15 runs in the over.

In the 13th over, Arya struck a four, and Inglis hit a six off Bumrah. PBKS raced to 131/1.

Santner Strikes, But PBKS Stay Ahead

In the 14th over, Inglis hit a four to bring up a 100-run partnership. Arya added another four. Santner finally broke the stand in the 15th over. He dismissed Arya for 62 off 35. Shreyas Iyer came in and got off the mark with a single. PBKS reached 146/2.

Jacks bowled the 16th over. PBKS crossed 150 as Inglis took a double. Iyer added a boundary. Bumrah bowled the 17th and gave away just 7 runs. PBKS were in control.

Inglis Falls, Iyer Finishes the Chase

Santner bowled the 18th over. Inglis hit a four but fell on 73 off 42. Nehal Wadhera joined Iyer. Iyer finished the over with a six. PBKS were at 180/3.

Trent Boult started the 19th over. Iyer sealed the win with a six on the third ball. PBKS won by 7 wickets and secured a top-two spot. Iyer remained unbeaten on 26* (16), and Wadhera on 2* (2).

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave Mumbai a solid start, but they failed to maintain the momentum. Suryakumar Yadav played a superb innings that helped Mumbai Indians post a defendable total. Naman Dhir and Hardik Pandya showed some fireworks, but Mumbai Indians fell 30-40 runs short.

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave Punjab Kings a good start. Although Prabhsimran got out early, the dangerous Josh Inglis took charge. Priyansh Arya played well and scored a half-century. He also built a 100-run partnership with Josh Inglis. However, it was Inglis's fearless innings that made the real difference.
