Just hours after Israeli airstrikes killed three of Iran’s top military commanders, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed new leaders to key positions on Friday.
New Leadership Announced
According to Tehran Times, Khamenei named Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi as the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces. He also appointed Major General Ali Shadmani as Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters. In addition, Major General Mohammad Pakpour became the new Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
These appointments came shortly after the deaths of General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, General Gholamali Rashid, and General Hossein Salami in Israeli strikes. Iranian authorities described their deaths as “honorable martyrdoms.”
Khamenei’s Official Decrees
In his order, Khamenei blamed the “malicious Zionist regime” for Bagheri’s death. Moreover, he praised Mousavi’s experience and leadership. He urged all armed branches, including the Basij militia, to remain alert. Furthermore, he called for “revolutionary action” to counter threats and protect the nation.
He ended his message by praying for Bagheri’s soul, asking for his place among saints like Imam Ali (peace be upon him).
Shadmani to Lead Strategic Coordination
Next, Khamenei named General Ali Shadmani to replace General Rashid. He noted Shadmani’s proven leadership. Khamenei instructed him to improve strategic coordination across the military. In particular, he stressed the need to assess combat readiness in cooperation with the General Staff.
Additionally, he offered prayers for General Rashid’s soul and his eternal honor among divine figures.
Pakpour to Head the IRGC
Finally, Khamenei appointed General Mohammad Pakpour, a key IRGC ground commander, to lead the entire IRGC. He emphasized that the IRGC must combine military strength with spiritual and cultural leadership.
As in the other orders, Khamenei prayed for General Salami’s spiritual elevation and wished Pakpour and his team success in fulfilling their duties.
