Diana Penty Shares Painful Childhood Memories of Harassment and Body-Shaming
Diana Penty shared her experiences of being catcalled on trains and body-shamed for being too skinny, calling them painful memories that shaped her youth.

Actor Diana Penty recently opened up about facing harassment during her daily train rides to college. She revealed this in an interview, where she said, “I think every girl in Bombay has gone through this.”

She used to travel from Byculla to VT station to attend St Xavier’s College. During these commutes, she faced frequent catcalling and was elbowed in crowded compartments. “There’s catcalling, and people try to elbow you. It became a part of daily life,” she recalled.

Because she was shy and underconfident at the time, she couldn’t fight back. “I would go into a shell. It would scare me. I didn’t have the confidence to elbow back,” she admitted.

Struggles with Body-Shaming

Besides harassment, Diana also spoke about being body-shamed for being too skinny. She said this started during childhood and continued until a few years ago. “It scarred me. You’re a child, and if people keep telling you, ‘Oh, you’re so skinny, you don’t eat?’” she said.

Even relatives questioned her mother. “Some aunties would go up to my mother and say this. She used to get so irritated—like why wouldn’t I feed my child?” These comments made Diana feel self-conscious.

Her mother took her to a paediatric dietician, who recommended six bananas a day to help her gain weight. “I managed four, but nothing changed,” she said. Diana added that she often avoided sleeveless outfits and wore extra layers to hide her thin frame. “I just wanted to fit in,” she explained.

Her Work in Films

Diana Penty is currently part of the film Detective Sherdil, which stars Diljit Dosanjh, Boman Irani, Chunky Panday, and Banita Sandhu. The movie is available for streaming on ZEE5.

Next, she will be seen in Section 84, alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Nimrat Kaur. However, the makers have not yet announced the release date.
