Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday. The conversation came hours after the US bombed three of Iran’s nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
Modi shared an update on social media. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations."
He also called for a peaceful solution, saying, "Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability."
US Launches Coordinated Strikes
On Saturday night, the United States launched airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. According to reports, six B-2 stealth bombers targeted the deeply buried Fordow site. Meanwhile, Tomahawk cruise missiles struck the Natanz and Isfahan facilities.
Soon after, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency confirmed the attacks. Officials from Qom province said:
"A few hours ago, when Qom air defences were activated and hostile targets were identified, part of the Fordow nuclear site was attacked by enemies."
Trump Justifies the Strikes
US President Donald Trump addressed the nation from the Cross Hall of the White House. He confirmed the airstrikes and gave a clear warning. “Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror,” he said.
Trump made it clear that he would not hesitate to strike again. “This is only the beginning if Iran does not choose peace,” he declared.
He stood beside Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during the address.
Talks Disrupted by Military Action
Interestingly, the US carried out these strikes while holding indirect talks with Iran. Both sides had been exploring a possible nuclear agreement. However, this attack now threatens to derail the negotiations.
Symbolic Speech Setting
Trump’s speech had symbolic meaning. He spoke from the same location where former President Barack Obama announced the killing of Osama Bin Laden in 2011. This move highlighted the seriousness of the moment.
