Heavy rains have battered Himachal Pradesh for the past few days. The downpour has thrown life out of gear across the state. On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert. Mandi district remains the worst hit. So far, 17 people have died in rain-related incidents.

Roads Blocked, Power and Water Disrupted

The State Disaster Management Authority said 259 roads are blocked. 614 power transformers and 130 water supply schemes are also not working.

An official from the State Emergency Operation Centre said, “The monsoon is intensifying its grip, and the impact is visible across multiple districts. Roads, power lines, and water systems are all severely affected.”

Mandi District Worst Affected

Mandi reported 139 blocked roads and 314 damaged transformers. Subdivisions like Gohar (199 affected), Mandi II (79), and J Nagar (18) are the most impacted. The Beas River is flowing above danger levels.

In Kasong, a cloudburst killed one person. In Syanj, a flash flood washed away a house, and seven people are missing, according to News18. Authorities have launched rescue operations across the state.

Highway and Villages Affected

The Chandigarh-Manali Highway is closed for traffic. Heavy rain damaged several stretches.

In Sirmaur, 92 water schemes are down, including 19 in Nohradhar and 16 in Pachhad. Kullu district reported 20 blocked roads and 47 affected water systems, especially in Kullu, Largi, and Anni. In Spiti, officials reported 139 transformers down, the highest in any one area.

Government Urges People to Stay Home

The state government urged people to stay indoors. It asked them to avoid travel, especially in hilly or risky regions.

Earlier, the IMD issued an orange alert for Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Shimla. It predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at some locations.
