PM Modi Arrives in Trinidad and Tobago to Strengthen Bilateral Ties
PM Modi landed in Trinidad and Tobago to boost ties and received a grand welcome from leaders and the Indian community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday night. This marked the second leg of his five-nation tour. Earlier, he had departed from Ghana to continue strengthening India’s global partnerships.

Warm Welcome at the Airport

Upon landing at Piarco International Airport, PM Modi received a warm reception. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar personally welcomed him. Moreover, her entire Cabinet accompanied her. The Indian leader was also given a formal Guard of Honour. Interestingly, Persad-Bissessar wore Indian traditional attire for the occasion.

Shortly after, Modi posted on X, “Landed in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. I thank Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, distinguished members of the Cabinet and MPs for the gesture of welcoming me at the airport. This visit will further cement bilateral ties between our nations. Looking forward to addressing a community programme in a few hours from now.”

Enthusiastic Reception from the Indian Community

Later, when Modi reached his hotel, members of the Indian diaspora welcomed him with great enthusiasm. They chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Modi, Modi.’ Additionally, an orchestra played music. A local group also performed devotional bhajans to greet him.

Cultural Connection on Display

Afterward, Modi attended a traditional Bhojpuri Chautaal performance in Port of Spain. He admired the deep cultural connection between the two nations.
“The connect between Trinidad & Tobago and India, especially parts of eastern UP and Bihar is noteworthy,” he stated.

Key Meetings Planned

During his visit, PM Modi will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo. In addition, he will hold official talks with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. They are expected to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in various areas.

Scheduled Parliament Address

Furthermore, Modi is set to address a Joint Session of Trinidad and Tobago’s Parliament. His speech is likely to highlight the long-standing friendship and shared heritage between the two nations. Overall, his visit is expected to inject fresh energy into the historical and cultural ties.
