Trump Warns of 10% Tariff on Nations Supporting ‘Anti-American’ BRICS Policies
Trump plans to impose 10% tariffs on countries supporting BRICS policies that criticize US actions and threaten its trade interests.

US President Donald Trump has announced a new 10% tariff on countries that back BRICS policies he views as “anti-American.” His statement follows strong criticism of the US-Israel attacks on Iran during the recent BRICS Summit 2025 in Brazil.

BRICS Condemns US and Israel Strikes

At the BRICS summit, the 10 member nations — Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates — condemned airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites. They described the attacks as “illegal.”

Modi Highlights Global South's Struggles

During the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concerns about the “double standards” in global responses to terrorism—especially in the Global South. He pointed out how terror attacks in developing regions often fail to receive the same urgency or outrage.

BRICS Pushes for Fair Approach to Terrorism

In a joint declaration, BRICS nations urged the world to stop treating terrorism differently based on geography. “We urge to ensure zero tolerance for terrorism and reject double standards in countering terrorism,” the statement said.

They also condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people. BRICS called for stricter measures to stop terror funding, cross-border terrorism, and the use of safe havens.

Criticism of Tariff Policies

The BRICS declaration didn’t mention the US by name but criticized the “indiscriminate rising of tariffs.” The group warned that such trade measures could harm global trade and destabilize supply chains.

BRICS Opposes Unilateral Wars

BRICS nations also took a firmer stance on military actions in Gaza, criticizing unilateral strikes and highlighting the Global South’s opposition to such conflicts. They emphasized the need for a fair and peaceful resolution in the region.

Trump Says Tariff Letters Are Ready

Meanwhile, Trump said that 12 countries are about to face new tariffs. “Tariff letters are signed and ready,” he stated. He promised the letters would go out on Monday at 12 PM EST.

These letters come as the 90-day pause on new tariffs is about to expire on July 9. Initially, Trump had announced higher tariffs on April 2. However, facing criticism and a slowdown in trade negotiations, he delayed implementation.

Trump Stands Firm Despite Global Pressure

Although many leaders and experts have questioned Trump’s tough stance, he remains determined. Despite growing global backlash, Trump continues to frame the tariffs as a way to protect US interests and push back against policies he sees as unfair or anti-American.
