A video from Toronto recently showed eggs thrown at a Rath Yatra procession. As a result, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned the attack. The ministry described the incident as “regrettable” and “against the spirit of the festival.” Moreover, India asked Canada to take strict action against those responsible.
“We have seen reports regarding disruption created by mischievous elements during the Rath Yatra procession in Toronto. Such despicable acts are regrettable and are against the spirit of the festival, which seeks to promote unity, inclusivity, and social harmony,” said Randhir Jaiswal, MEA spokesperson.

India Demands Action from Canada
Therefore, India officially raised the issue with Canadian authorities. Jaiswal added, “We have strongly taken up the matter with Canadian authorities to hold the perpetrators of the act accountable. We hope the Canadian government will take necessary action to protect the religious rights of people.”
Incident Captured on Video
Meanwhile, the incident gained attention after Sangna Bajaj, a participant in the Rath Yatra, posted a video on Instagram. In the video, Bajaj sings devotional songs as the procession continues. However, as the group enters a quieter street, several broken eggs appear scattered across the road.
Festival Promotes Peace and Unity
According to the MEA, the attack disrupted a peaceful and religious event. The ministry stressed that the Rath Yatra promotes unity, inclusivity, and social harmony. Consequently, India hopes that Canada will quickly identify and punish those responsible to prevent such incidents in the future.
