India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Tianjin, China on Tuesday. He spoke directly in front of ministers from China, Pakistan, and other member countries. Significantly, he warned about the growing dangers of “three evils” — terrorism, separatism, and extremism.
Refers to Pahalgam Attack
To explain his concern, Jaishankar pointed to the recent attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. He said that India had seen a “graphic example” of terrorism there in April this year. According to him, the attack aimed to hurt the tourism economy and create a religious divide. Although he did not mention Pakistan directly, he clearly suggested its involvement.
Mentions UN’s Condemnation
Later, Jaishankar shared on X that the UN Security Council had condemned the Pahalgam attack “in the strongest terms.” The UNSC also urged punishment for those who planned and supported the attack. He stressed, “We have since done exactly that and will continue doing so.”

India Responds with Operation Sindoor
In response to the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor. This military operation targeted terror hubs across the border in Pakistan. As a result, India made it clear that it treats both terrorists and their supporters equally.
Calls for SCO’s Firm Stand
Furthermore, Jaishankar urged the SCO to stay true to its founding goals by taking an “uncompromising” stand against terrorism. He reminded member nations that terrorism must not be ignored if the group wants to ensure regional peace.
Pakistan Publicly Praises China
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy PM Ishaq Dar met Chinese President Xi Jinping. After the meeting, he posted on X calling China an “iron-clad brother” and a key strategic partner. Pakistan also promised to work closely with China for regional development.
SCO Members Include India, China, Russia, Pakistan
Finally, it is important to note that SCO has ten member countries: China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. Together, they focus on security and cooperation in Eurasia.
