Story and Sequel Details
The original film told the story of Sally Owens (played by Kidman) and Gillian Owens (played by Bullock), two sisters born into a family of witches. They struggled with a family curse that killed every man they loved. The 1998 movie was directed by Griffin Dunne. However, the sequel has Susanne Bier as its director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman recently shared her thoughts about working with Bier. She said, “Sandy’s worked with her, too, so the two of us were like, well, this is the perfect triangle because we all know each other so well, and to be able to work together on something that is fun and witchy.”
Cast and Crew Updates
Fans of the original movie will be pleased to hear that Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing will return as the Owens aunts. Besides them, new faces have joined the cast. Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Mariduena, and Solly McLeod will all play roles in the sequel.
Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the first film, has also co-written the script for Practical Magic 2, along with Georgia Pritchett. Both Bullock and Kidman are working as producers on the project. Denise Di Novi, who produced the first movie, has returned as well.
Release Date
Practical Magic 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on September 18, 2026.
