PM Modi to Visit UK and Maldives for Trade Talks and Regional Outreach
PM Modi will visit the UK and Maldives from July 23 to 26 to sign a key trade deal and rebuild regional ties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his two-nation tour from July 23 to 26. His first stop will be the United Kingdom on July 23 and 24. During this visit, he will sign the important India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

This deal will remove tariffs on 99% of Indian exports to the UK. In return, British products like whisky and cars will become cheaper in India.

After three years of negotiations, both countries are ready to finalize the agreement. As a result, businesses will enjoy better market access and easier trade processes.

Officials confirmed that this deal will also deepen security ties. By removing trade barriers, India and the UK plan to strengthen both economic and strategic cooperation.

Modi to Attend Maldives’ National Day

After completing the UK visit, Modi will travel to the Maldives on July 25 and 26. He will attend the country’s 60th National Day as the Chief Guest. This will be his first visit since President Mohamed Muizzu took office.

Relations between India and the Maldives have faced strain in recent months. The “India Out” campaign and the Maldives’ pro-China stance led to tensions. Therefore, Modi’s visit aims to restore trust and rebuild the relationship.

This visit also supports India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. Strong ties with the Maldives are important for regional peace and India’s security interests.

Visit Seen as Key to Regional Strategy

President Muizzu had visited India in October 2024, signaling a desire to improve relations. Modi’s upcoming visit will continue those efforts.

Overall, Modi’s two-nation tour will focus on boosting trade with the UK and repairing ties with the Maldives. Through this trip, India hopes to strengthen both economic links and regional partnerships.
