US President Donald Trump has again claimed that his intervention helped stop the conflict between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor. This operation was India’s military response to the Pahalgam attack.
“We have stopped a lot of wars. And these were serious wars. India and Pakistan were going at it, and they were back and forth, and it was getting bigger and bigger, and we got it solved through trade,” Trump said.
According to him, the US warned both countries that trade deals would be blocked if the cross-border firing continued. He said this pressure led to a ceasefire. While Pakistan thanked Trump for his role, India denied any US involvement.
Trump also stated that several jets were shot down during the hostilities. “In fact, planes were being shot out of the air. Five, five, four or five, but I think five jets were shot down actually,” he said.
India Strongly Denies Mediation Claim
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar firmly rejected Trump’s claims. Speaking to Newsweek, Jaishankar said that India acted independently.
He recalled that on the night of May 9, US Vice President Vance called Prime Minister Modi. According to Jaishankar, Vance warned that Pakistan might launch a large-scale attack. However, Jaishankar stated, “We did not accept certain things, and the Prime Minister was impervious to what the Pakistanis were threatening to do.”
He added that Prime Minister Modi indicated India would respond if necessary.
Talks Only After India’s Firm Stand
Jaishankar said that the next communication with the US came the following morning. He spoke to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who mentioned that “the Pakistanis were ready to talk.”
While Trump continues to claim credit for ending the conflict, India maintains that its decisions were made without any foreign mediation or pressure.
