India Takes Its Own Decisions, Says Vice President Dhankhar Amid Trump’s Ceasefire Claims
India’s Vice-President said no power can dictate its decisions, indirectly rejecting Trump’s claims of brokering the India-Pakistan ceasefire.

India’s Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar firmly rejected any foreign interference, as US President Donald Trump continued to claim credit for stopping the India-Pakistan conflict in May. On Saturday, he told young Defence Estates officers in Delhi that no country can dictate terms to India.

India Makes Its Own Decisions

To clarify India’s position, Dhankhar said that all decisions are made by the country’s leadership alone. “Don’t be guided by narratives outside. All decisions in this country, a sovereign nation, are taken by its leadership. There is no power on the planet that can dictate how India handles its affairs,” he said.

Moreover, he explained that while India works with other nations through dialogue and respect, it always makes independent decisions.
“At the end of the day, we are sovereign; we take our own decisions,” Dhankhar added.

Notably, his comments came just a day after Trump claimed he helped stop the conflict and stated that five fighter jets were shot down during the clashes.

Congress Demands Clarity from Modi

Meanwhile, the Congress party reacted strongly to Trump’s claims. As a result, it demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address Parliament and explain whether Trump’s statements are true.

Dhankhar Advises Restraint Against Provocations

In addition, Dhankhar sent a subtle message to the Opposition. He advised ignoring unnecessary provocations.
“Is it necessary to respond to every provocation? In cricket, a smart batsman leaves the bad balls—tempting, but best avoided. Those who go for them often end up caught behind or in the slips,” he said.

Thus, Dhankhar urged India to focus on its priorities instead of reacting to every outside statement.

India’s Calm Response Under Operation Sindoor

Later, Dhankhar highlighted India’s response to the April Pahalgam terror attack. He explained that India acted carefully under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
“We struck Bahawalpur and Muridke and then paused—Operation Sindoor is still ongoing,” he stated.

He also compared India’s actions with prolonged wars elsewhere, such as in Ukraine and Gaza.
“We’ve seen prolonged global wars with massive destruction. In contrast, India acted with restraint and precision,” he said.

Furthermore, he explained India’s reason for choosing peace over escalation.
“The answer lies in our ethos: we are a nation of peace, inspired by Buddha, Mahavira, and Gandhi. We do not wish to harm even living beings—how can we target human beings? Our goal is to awaken a sense of humanity, not to destroy,” Dhankhar added.

Overall, India’s Vice-President made it clear that India will not accept any foreign interference. While Trump claimed credit for the ceasefire, Dhankhar stressed India’s sovereignty and peaceful approach in handling both external threats and global narratives.
