Tensions are reportedly rising between the Trump administration and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also known as “Bibi”, over Israel’s military actions in Syria and Gaza, according to a report by Axios.
US Officials Unhappy with Netanyahu’s Military Strategy
A senior White House official told Axios that Netanyahu’s constant airstrikes were causing concern in Washington. Referring to a recent Israeli strike on Syria’s presidential palace, the official said, “Bibi acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time. This could undermine what Trump is trying to do.”
The criticism comes as Israeli attacks continue across Damascus and southern Syria, with reports of government positions being hit. In another serious incident, Israeli forces reportedly targeted the Holy Family Catholic Church compound, which is the only Catholic church in the Gaza Strip.
Trump Personally Demanded Answers from Netanyahu
After the strike on the Gaza church, President Donald Trump reportedly contacted Netanyahu directly to demand an explanation. A US official told Axios, “The feeling is that every day there is something new. What the f***?”
These reactions came even though Netanyahu had recently visited the United States for the third time in just a few weeks. During his trip, he met several times with Trump, including at a White House dinner. However, despite these talks, no progress was made in ending the Gaza conflict.
Netanyahu Seen as “Impulsive” and “Disruptive”
Another White House official shared that there is growing frustration with Netanyahu’s approach inside Trump’s team. The official described him as “too impulsive and too disruptive.” He added, “Netanyahu is sometimes like a child who just won’t behave.”
The Israeli government has not responded to these statements. Ziv Agmon, spokesperson for the Israeli government, declined to comment.
US Steps In to Calm Situation
Following Israel’s recent strike in Syria, the United States stepped in to reduce tensions. According to the report, the US Ambassador to Turkey announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between the involved sides.
Although the ceasefire has brought a temporary halt to the violence, senior Trump officials remain deeply concerned about Netanyahu’s aggressive regional policies, Axios reported, citing six US sources.
