Trump Criticises India and Russia, Calls Their Economies ‘Dead’
Trump slammed India’s trade policies and its close ties with Russia, calling both nations’ economies “dead.”

US President Donald Trump sharply criticised both India and Russia on Thursday. He said he does not care about the relationship between the two countries. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump referred to both economies as “dead.”

He wrote, “They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” expressing frustration over trade issues and defence cooperation between India and Russia.

US President targets Indian trade practices

Trump accused India of charging some of the highest tariffs in the world. According to him, these tariffs have made it difficult for the US to do meaningful trade with India. He said, “Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World.”

He also blamed India’s non-monetary trade barriers, calling them “the most strenuous and obnoxious of any Country.” Trump pointed to a "massive" trade deficit with India, suggesting that current trade terms are unfair to the US.

Trump criticises India’s defence purchases from Russia

Trump also expressed concern about India’s military relationship with Russia. He claimed that India “has always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia.” He criticised India for continuing to buy energy from Moscow, even as the West urges Russia to end the war in Ukraine.

He said India remains one of Russia’s top energy buyers “at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in Ukraine.”

Trump warns Russian official

Besides India, Trump also aimed strong words at Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council. Trump called him a “failed former President.” He warned Medvedev to be careful with his words, saying he is “entering very dangerous territory.”

New tariffs on Indian goods

Trump's comments came a day after he announced a 25 per cent tariff on Indian imports. He also imposed penalties over India’s continued military and energy purchases from Russia. The decision reflects rising tensions over India’s stance on the Ukraine conflict and its trade policies.
