‘Me and CSK Are Together’: Dhoni Confirms Long-Term Role Beyond Playing
Dhoni confirmed that his bond with CSK will continue beyond retirement, saying he will always be “sitting in a yellow jersey.”

MS Dhoni finally broke his silence on his future with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), making it clear that his association with the IPL franchise will last for years to come. Speaking at a private event earlier this week, Dhoni said “Me and CSK, we are together… even for the next 15-20 years,” though he joked, “I hope they don't think I'll be playing for another 15-20 years!”

His remarks suggested that he plans to stay connected with CSK even after retiring as a player.

CSK’s 2025 Struggles Did Not Change His Loyalty

Despite leading CSK during one of their toughest seasons in IPL 2025, Dhoni remained loyal. After Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an elbow injury, Dhoni stepped back in as captain. He led the team through a rough campaign where CSK won only four of their 14 matches and finished at the bottom of the table.

Still, Dhoni expressed his unshaken loyalty, saying, “It's not about one year or two years. I will always be sitting in a yellow jersey.” He added that fans will know “whether I’ll be playing or not in a while,” but made it clear he won’t walk away anytime soon.

Dhoni Highlights Importance of Learning from Failure

Dhoni accepted that CSK’s performance in the past two years has not met expectations. However, he focused on the importance of reflection. He said, “Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark.”

He stressed the need to learn from mistakes, asking, “But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong?” He noted that the same question applied in the previous year as well.

Ruturaj’s Return Will Help Balance the Team

Dhoni addressed concerns about CSK’s batting problems during the season. He believes that the return of Ruturaj Gaikwad will bring back balance to the side. He shared, “Rutu will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now.”

He also pointed to the December mini-auction as a chance to fix other weaknesses in the squad.

Chennai and CSK Shaped His Journey

In an emotional closing, Dhoni acknowledged the role that CSK and the city of Chennai have played in his personal and professional growth. He said, “So, I feel the relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer.” Dhoni added, “CSK just happened. I think it's good for Chennai. So, today it's good for me also.”
