National Security Adviser Ajit Doval confirmed on Wednesday in Moscow that Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon visit India.
During a high-level meeting, Doval said, “We are very excited and delighted to know about President Putin’s visit to India. I think the dates have almost been finalised now.”
Strategic Partnership Remains Strong
Doval stressed that India and Russia value their long-standing bond. “We have a very special, long-term relationship, and we greatly value our strategic partnership,” he noted. He added that frequent top-level meetings have “made a very significant contribution” to this relationship. Putin’s visit is expected to advance cooperation in defence, energy, and global platforms like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Russia Seeks Deeper Engagement
Earlier that day, Doval met Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu. Shoigu highlighted that both countries are engaged in a strong, trust-based dialogue. He said, “A multi-level trust-based political dialogue is effectively functioning between our countries now. It is based on regular contacts between President Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” Shoigu also pointed out the urgency to “determine the dates for the next full-scale negotiations between our leaders.”
Trust and Mutual Respect at the Core
Shoigu said Moscow sees the relationship as “special” and “privileged,” grounded in trust and shared goals. He explained, “It is based on mutual respect, trust, equal consideration of each other’s interests, and the desire to promote a unifying agenda.” According to him, both sides aim to create a “new, more just and sustainable world order” and work together to face global challenges.
Doval Expects Solid Outcomes
Doval expressed hope that the upcoming summit will deliver clear and meaningful results.TASS reported that he expects the meeting to produce a “tangible and substantial” outcome.
Talks on Defence and Economy in Focus
According to local reports, Doval will meet top Russian officials during his visit.His agenda includes key discussions on defence collaboration and economic ties. He arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to prepare the groundwork for Putin’s visit.
US Tariffs Put Pressure on India
Interestingly, Doval’s trip came just as US President Donald Trump imposed higher tariffs on Indian goods.
The executive order added another 25% duty, raising the total to 50%.
This move reportedly aims to punish India for continuing oil imports from Russia.
