Heavy Rains Lash Mumbai, IMD Issues Red Alert
Mumbai witnessed severe waterlogging on Saturday as heavy rain continued, prompting IMD to issue a red alert for the city and nearby areas.

Mumbai woke up to severe waterlogging on Saturday morning after heavy rainfall lashed the city through the night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rain in parts of Maharashtra.

Water overflowed not only on streets and residential areas but also on railway tracks. Train movement was affected at Dadar and Bandra stations, where the tracks were submerged after continuous downpours.

Suburbs Hit by Intense Rain

According to IMD data, heavy showers pounded both western and eastern suburbs between 1 am and 4 am. In the western belt, Marol Fire Station recorded the highest rainfall of 207 mm, while Nariyalwadi School in Santacruz reported 202 mm.

The eastern suburbs also faced intense spells. At Vikhroli, Tagore Nagar Municipal School registered 196 mm of rain, and the nearby Building Proposal Office in Ghatkopar recorded 195 mm.

Visuals of Submerged Streets

Visuals from Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas showed residents struggling in flooded streets.

In Vashi, people walked through knee-deep water holding umbrellas. Popular city spots such as Kings Circle and Gandhi Market were also seen submerged, disrupting daily activities.

Rain Forecast and Alerts

Meteorologists linked the heavy showers to low-pressure systems forming in the Bay of Bengal. IMD warned that the rain is likely to continue for the next few days across Maharashtra. For Saturday, the forecast predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in many areas and extremely heavy rain at isolated places.

Daytime temperatures are expected to hover around 29 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature may dip to 24 degrees Celsius.

Citizens Advised to Stay Indoors

Since Friday, the city has witnessed continuous rain. Initially, IMD issued an orange alert, but it was later upgraded to red as conditions worsened.

With heavy rainfall likely to continue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) urged citizens to remain indoors unless necessary.
