After wrapping up his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump gave his Alaska talks the highest score. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said the meeting was “10 on 10” and described it as “very good.” He added that his ultimate goal was to “see people stop dying.”
“We had a very good meeting today, but we’ll see. You have to get a deal. We agreed on a lot of points. I want to see people stop dying,” Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. However, he underlined once again that “there’s no deal” until a formal agreement is signed. “Look, as far as I’m concerned, there’s no deal until there’s a deal. But we did make a lot of progress,” he said.
Putin’s Remark Pleases Trump
Trump also noted he felt encouraged by Putin’s comment that “if he were the president, the Russia-Ukraine war would have never happened.” Even so, the U.S. president avoided disclosing the contentious issues that still remain.
When asked about the differences, Trump responded, “No, I’d rather not. I guess somebody’s gonna go public with it, they’ll figure it out. But no, I don’t want to do that, I want to see if we can get it done.”
Responsibility Shifted to Zelenskyy
In the same interview, Trump made it clear that the next step lies with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He stressed that talks between Ukraine and Russia must now move forward.
“Now it’s really up to President Zelensky to get it done,” Trump said. “They’re going to set up a meeting now between President Zelensky and President Putin, and me, I guess.”
He added, “I want to make sure it gets done. And we have a pretty good chance of getting it done.”
Heading Back to Washington
After completing the Alaska meeting and his media interactions, Trump boarded Air Force One. He is now heading back to Washington, DC.
