Trump Says He Will Decide on Russia Sanctions in Two Weeks
US President Donald Trump said he will know in two weeks whether peace efforts in Ukraine can move forward, while again warning of possible sanctions on Moscow.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he expects to know within two weeks if there is any chance of progress in ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, he admitted his frustration with the peace process.

“I’m not happy with any aspect of the effort to find peace,” Trump said.

Recent Talks With Putin

The comments came a week after Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. So far, however, he has not been able to persuade Putin to meet directly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“There’s a tremendous amount of hatred there,” Trump said, describing the difficulty in getting both sides to the table. “But we’ll see what happens. I think in two weeks, we’ll know which way I’m going.”

Possible Sanctions on Moscow

Trump also suggested that he may impose new measures on Russia if no progress is made. He said he will decide in two weeks whether to introduce “massive sanctions” or to step back from the effort and declare, “it’s your fight.”
