Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025: India Edge Closer to Final Spot with Clinical 4-2 Win Over Korea
India outclassed South Korea 4-2 in the Women’s Asia Cup Super 4s, staying unbeaten and boosting their title hopes.

India registered an impressive 4-2 win over Korea in the Super 4 round of the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, China. This victory extended India’s unbeaten streak and showcased their resilience, sharp attack, and strong team coordination.

Strong Start Despite Delay

The match began later than scheduled due to thunderstorms earlier in the day. However, once play started, both teams displayed high-paced, skillful hockey.

India, who had topped Pool B with seven points from three games, started aggressively and immediately put Korea on the back foot. South Korea, known for their structured defense, tried to resist India’s attacks but struggled to contain the constant pressure.

Early Lead for India

India struck early in the 2nd minute when Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke pounced on a rebound from a penalty corner and slotted it home, giving India a 1-0 lead.

Throughout the first half, India controlled possession and created several chances. Despite their dominance, they were unable to convert these opportunities into more goals before Korea staged a comeback.

Korea Fight Back, India Respond

South Korea equalized in the 33rd minute through Kim Yujin, who converted a penalty corner to level the score at 1-1. However, India responded quickly. Just before halftime, Sangita Kumari restored India’s lead with a well-taken goal, making it 2-1.

The momentum shifted further in India’s favor in the second half when Lalremsiami scored in the 40th minute, extending the lead to 3-1 after a perfectly executed team move.

Late Strike Secures Victory

Korea tried to push forward in the final quarter, but India held firm. In the 59th minute, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal scored India’s fourth goal, sealing a comprehensive 4-2 win and ensuring the team maintained their unbeaten run.

Defensive Strength Without Savita Punia

India’s regular goalkeeper Savita Punia was unavailable for this match, but Bichu Devi Kharibam stepped up brilliantly. Her crucial saves under pressure played a key role in keeping Korea from making a stronger comeback.

What the Win Means

With this victory, India earned three vital points and strengthened their position in the Super 4 standings. The win also gave the team a confidence boost ahead of their next match against China, a crucial step toward their goal of lifting the Women’s Asia Cup title.

Road Ahead

India’s balanced display — combining tight defense with sharp attacking play — has established them as strong contenders for the trophy. Maintaining this momentum will be essential as they face tougher challenges in the upcoming fixtures.
