Three Police Officers Killed, Two Injured in Pennsylvania Shooting
A shooting in southern Pennsylvania killed three police officers and injured two, sparking a major investigation and heavy security measures.

A tragic shooting in southern Pennsylvania left three police officers dead and injured two others on Wednesday. Consequently, the attack triggered grief and a massive response from law enforcement agencies.

Governor Josh Shapiro expressed deep sorrow, saying, “We grieve for the loss of life of three precious souls who served this county, served this commonwealth, served this country.”

Shooting in North Codorus Township

The incident occurred in North Codorus Township, about 115 miles (185 km) west of Philadelphia near the Maryland border. As a result, authorities quickly launched an investigation and sealed off the area.

According to officials, around 30 police vehicles surrounded the scene, blocking several roads near farms and fields. Col. Christopher Paris, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner, stated, “There are simply no words I can offer to assuage the grief that this community has experienced.”

Injured Officers in Critical Condition

Meanwhile, York Hospital confirmed it is treating two injured officers, both in serious condition. To ensure safety, the hospital implemented enhanced security measures for patients, staff, and those wounded in the shooting.

Leaders Condemn Violence

Soon after the incident, US Attorney General Pam Bondi strongly condemned the attack, calling violence against police “a scourge on our society.” Additionally, she confirmed that federal agents are assisting local officers in the investigation.

Similarly, Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis urged prayers for the victims. He wrote on social media, “Please send prayers to the officers and those involved in the shooting in York County.”

Furthermore, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that he was heading to the scene. He asked residents to follow police instructions and added that he was “praying for all involved.”

Schools Ordered to Shelter in Place

In response to the shooting, the local school district issued a shelter-in-place order. Although no students or schools were directly involved, authorities took this precaution while roads remained closed.

Eventually, by the afternoon, officials lifted the order once they confirmed there was no continuing threat. The district later explained, “Authorities advised us to hold students and staff in our buildings as a precaution while several area roads are closed.”

Community Still Recovering From February Attack

Significantly, the region is still recovering from a February hostage incident at a local hospital ICU. During that attack, a man armed with a pistol and zip ties held medical staff hostage. The standoff ended in a shootout, killing both the suspect and a police officer.

The York County Commissioners expressed support, stating, “Pennsylvania State Police, Northern Regional Police and numerous emergency responders are at the scene. The York County Commissioners are monitoring the situation closely and praying for all those involved.”

Investigation Ongoing

At this point, police have not shared details about the suspect or motive. Nevertheless, officers continue to patrol the area and urge residents to stay away while the investigation unfolds.
