Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written the foreword for the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s autobiography. He described the book as her version of ‘Mann Ki Baat’. The autobiography, titled I am Giorgia — My Roots, My Principles, will be released in India soon by Rupa Publications.
Modi Calls It a Great Honour
Modi said it was a “great honour” to write the foreword. He explained that he did so with “respect, admiration and friendship” for Meloni.
The prime minister praised Meloni, calling her a “patriot and outstanding contemporary leader.” He said he has met many world leaders over the past 11 years. Each of them, he noted, had a unique journey that shaped their leadership and personal stories.
Modi Praises Meloni’s Leadership
Modi wrote that Meloni’s rise to power reflects “timeless truths.” He said her story would inspire Indian readers and described it as the journey of “an outstanding contemporary political leader and a patriot.”
He also admired her belief in defending cultural heritage while engaging with the world “on equal terms.” According to Modi, these values are similar to India’s own principles and traditions.
Meloni’s Rise to the Top
Meloni first released her autobiography in 2021, when she was Italy’s opposition leader. A year later, she became the country’s first woman prime minister, making history in Italian politics.
In June 2025, the US edition of the book came out. It featured a brief foreword by Donald Trump Jr., the US president’s eldest son. Trump Jr. highlighted Meloni’s working-class background and described the memoir as “an unfiltered story of the patriotic tidal wave that Meloni would ride.”
Shared Values Between India and Italy
Modi wrote that India and Italy share deep cultural ties beyond treaties and trade.
“We are bound by shared civilizational instincts like the defence of heritage, the strength of community and the celebration of womanhood as a guiding force,” he said.
He added that both nations share “a respect for tradition and an embrace of modernity.” Modi described these common values as the foundation of his personal friendship with Meloni.
A Story That Resonates in India
Modi called Meloni’s journey “inspiring and historic.” He said it would connect deeply with Indians.
He praised her for defending motherhood, national identity, and tradition. Modi said her leadership style celebrates strength while staying true to one’s roots.
Through this foreword, Modi not only introduced Meloni’s book to Indian readers but also highlighted the strong bond between India and Italy, built on shared ideals and mutual respect.
