Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has responded to the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 trophy dispute. After India beat Pakistan by five wickets in Dubai, he said he was ready to hand the trophy to the team. Moreover, Naqvi added that he is still ready and asked Suryakumar Yadav and his players to collect it from the ACC office.
Naqvi Denies Apologizing to BCCI
Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and serves in Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, rejected reports claiming he apologized to BCCI officials. On X, he wrote, “I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day, and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me. I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologized to the BCCI nor will I ever do so.”
The Dubai Trophy Standoff
The controversy began at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium last Sunday. India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his perceived anti-India stance. Instead, they suggested receiving it from other officials.
Naqvi resisted, saying it was his prerogative to present the trophy. Eventually, after an hour-long standoff, he left the venue with the trophy. ACC officials followed him.
BCCI Threatens to Approach ICC
CNN-News18 reported that the BCCI viewed Naqvi as holding the trophy in “personal possession.” Consequently, they demanded its return to the ACC. Naqvi countered that the meeting focused only on electing an ACC vice-chairman. He added that a separate session should address the trophy issue.
Indian Representatives Take a Firm Stand
Representatives Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar have threatened to escalate the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) if necessary. Meanwhile, the trophy remains under ACC control, and Naqvi has reiterated that he will hand it to India.
Thus, the impasse continues, leaving the issue unresolved and keeping fans and officials on edge.
