A Russian drone struck a passenger train at a station in northern Ukraine’s Sumy region on Saturday. The attack injured around 30 people, according to local officials.
Zelenskyy Condemns “Savage” Attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly condemned the assault. He called it a “savage Russian drone strike” in a Telegram post. He also shared videos showing a burning carriage and shattered train windows.
“All emergency services are on the scene and helping people,” he said.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy accused Moscow of deliberately targeting civilians. “The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians. And this is terror the world must not ignore,” he added. He also urged global leaders to act. “Every day Russia takes people’s lives. Only strength can make them stop. Strong action is needed — lip service is not enough now.”
Train Was Heading to Kyiv
Sumy regional governor Oleh Hryhorov said the drone targeted a train travelling from Shostka to Kyiv. Medics and rescuers quickly arrived at the scene to help the injured.
Moreover, Oksana Tarasiuk, head of the local district administration, confirmed that around 30 people were hurt. However, there were no immediate reports of fatalities.
