Nitish Kumar Criticizes RJD, Promises Continued Development and Women’s Empowerment
Nitish Kumar launched his Bihar election campaign highlighting development, central support, and women’s empowerment while criticizing RJD’s governance.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, NDA’s lead candidate, framed his election campaign around development and strong central support. At his first major rally after the poll schedule was announced, he said, “Centre has given big support to us… PM Modi has helped Bihar a lot… We have got so many schemes." He emphasized that partnership with the central government enabled tangible progress across the state.

Moreover, he highlighted key infrastructure projects and women-focused initiatives like the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. He added that direct financial transfers and other welfare schemes have improved the lives of citizens, reinforcing his governance record.

Inclusive Growth Remains a Focus

Kumar defended his record on social inclusion. “I did development of all groups—be it Hindus, Muslims, backwards," he said. Furthermore, he highlighted initiatives for minorities: “I did a lot for Muslims… madrasas were given recognition."

His government granted official recognition to madrasas and ensured equal pay for their teachers. It also increased financial aid for abandoned Muslim women from ₹10,000 to ₹25,000. Additionally, fencing of graveyards reduced communal tension. Kumar positioned himself as a leader serving all communities, stressing equity and inclusion.

Direct Attack on RJD

Kumar sharply criticized RJD and its leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. He questioned their record, saying, “Have these people (RJD) done any work for women? He (Lalu) only did something for his wife." This referred to Lalu appointing Rabri Devi as Bihar CM in 1997 after his implication in the fodder scam. Kumar argued that it reflected dynastic politics, not genuine women’s empowerment.

Women’s Empowerment Strengthens Campaign

Kumar underscored women’s welfare initiatives. His government introduced 50% reservation for women in local body elections. Moreover, various schemes ensured financial independence and social security for women. By combining development with women-focused policies, Kumar aimed to solidify his support among female voters.

He reminded voters of the state’s earlier challenges: “There was an atmosphere of fear in the state before 2005. Nothing was done by the RJD government. Don’t fall into their trap. Now there is kanoon ka raaj (rule of law). We have worked for Hindus, Muslims, and all castes. We have the Centre’s big support."
