Australia Women crushed England Women by six wickets in the 23rd match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at Indore. England Women managed to post 244/9 in 50 overs, thanks to a composed knock by Tamsin Beaumont. Blazing contributions from Alice Capsey and Charlie Dean helped England get close to the 250 mark.
Annabel Sutherland (3/60 in 10 overs) and Ashleigh Gardner (2/39 in 9 overs) kept things tight and didn’t allow the English batters to score freely.
While chasing, Australia Women lost a few early wickets, but Annabel Sutherland and Ashleigh Gardner made the chase look effortless, reaching the target in just 40.3 overs. Gardner smashed a blazing century, while Sutherland narrowly missed her hundred by just two runs. Both remained unbeaten until the end.
This victory marked Australia’s fifth consecutive win, keeping them at the top of the points table.
England Start Strong
Earlier, Kim Garth, replacing seamer Darcie Brown, and Megan Schutt struggled with line and length. England openers capitalised, reaching 55 for 0 in eight overs, their highest powerplay total of the tournament.
Australia Strikes Back
Sutherland entered the attack and immediately made an impact. She bowled a wicket maiden, dismissing Amy Jones trapped inside the line of a perfect delivery on top of off stump. Shortly after, Garth closed out the powerplay with a maiden to Tammy Beaumont, starting Australia’s mid-innings fightback.
A smart Australia review removed Heather Knight, lbw to Sophie Molineux. King continued her excellent form from the Bangladesh match and took Sciver-Brunt’s wicket, luring her down the pitch and catching the ball at mid-off.
King extracted prolific turn and bounce, keeping England to just 26 runs between the 20th and 30th overs, while Australia scored 77 without loss in the same period.
Key Catches and Wickets
Georgia Voll, playing her first World Cup match, took a calm catch to dismiss Beaumont. Beaumont had tried to attack a Sutherland slower ball, but Voll parried the ball back into play while falling over the boundary rope and completed the catch smoothly.
Sutherland’s back-of-the-hand slower ball bowled Emma Lamb for 7, continuing her poor tournament form. Sophia Dunkley misread a Gardner delivery, advancing and hitting the leg side as the ball spun past her bat. Mooney whipped off the bails before Dunkley could make her ground.
Australia Regains Control
Capsey, usually struggling at No. 7, hit back-to-back fours off Sutherland, surpassing her previous best of 20 in this tournament. However, she was soon pinned on the pad by Molineux, and Dean chipped Gardner to cover, allowing Australia to wrest control back from England.
Gardner Powers Australia as Bowlers Fight Back
Australia’s Gardner raised her half-century with a brilliant pull off Sciver-Brunt, then immediately added two more boundaries—a perfect repeat of the first, followed by a lofted drive down the ground.
From there, the Australian pair made scoring look easy. Gardner attacked aggressively, hitting three consecutive fours off Capsey and three more off Ecclestone’s ninth over, surpassing Sutherland in runs.
Brief Scorecard
Annabel Sutherland is in top form. Ashleigh Gardner made things look easy when she came in to bat. On the other hand, England Women are struggling to score runs. Although they managed 244/9, that total is not enough when playing against Australia Women. Both teams have already qualified for the semifinals, but this match gives England valuable practice ahead of the knockout stage. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
