India Eye Comeback in Must-Win Second ODI Against Australia
India face a must-win clash against Australia in the second ODI at Adelaide Oval after losing the series opener in Perth by seven wickets.

India will meet Australia in the second ODI of the three-match series at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, October 23, at 9 AM IST. The match holds high stakes for the visitors, as another defeat would hand the series to the hosts.

India Trail 0-1 in the Series

The Shubman Gill-led Indian side is 1-0 down after suffering a seven-wicket loss in the first ODI at Perth. Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh in Pat Cummins’ absence, comfortably chased down a modest target of 131 runs in just 21.1 overs. Marsh led from the front with an unbeaten 46 off 52 balls, while Josh Philippe scored a quick 37 off 29. Matt Renshaw sealed the win with an unbeaten 21.

For India, Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar were the only wicket-takers.

Rohit and Kohli Look to Regain Form

This series marks the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to international cricket after a seven-month break. However, both failed to make an impact in Perth. Kohli was dismissed for a duck while chasing an outside-off delivery, and Rohit managed just eight runs from 14 balls before being caught by Matt Renshaw off Josh Hazlewood’s bowling.

KL Rahul was the standout performer for India, scoring 38 off 31 balls. Axar Patel also contributed a steady 31 from 38 deliveries. Frequent rain interruptions prevented India from building momentum, and the team was bowled out for 136.

Stakes High for Second ODI

A win for Australia in Adelaide will give them an unassailable 2-0 lead and the series victory. For India, a win is crucial to keep the series alive and take it to a decider. After the ODI series, both sides will face off in a five-match T20I series.

Pitch Report

Adelaide Oval could offer a much better batting surface compared to Perth. India have a strong record here, having last lost an ODI in Adelaide back in 2008. In their most recent ODI at this venue, Virat Kohli’s 39th century powered a successful 298-run chase with four balls remaining.

The shorter square boundaries and mild overcast conditions might suit stroke players like Rohit and Kohli, who will aim for redemption after their poor outing in Perth. Interestingly, the last ODI here saw Australia bundled out for just 163 by Pakistan’s fast bowlers.

Weather Report

The weather in Adelaide is expected to remain mostly pleasant for the second ODI. While rain affected India’s training session earlier in the week, forecasts suggest that Thursday’s match will likely stay dry. According to AccuWeather, conditions will be partly sunny with temperatures peaking at around 21°C in the afternoon. The temperature will drop to around 9°C in the evening, but skies are expected to remain clear throughout the match.
