AIFF Super Cup 2025-26: Clinical Mumbai City Outplay SC Delhi to Launch Campaign in Style
Mumbai City FC began their AIFF Super Cup campaign with a dominant 4-1 win over Sporting Club Delhi, showcasing their trademark attacking style in Fatorda.

Mumbai City FC produced a commanding performance to beat Sporting Club Delhi 4-1 in their Group D opener of the AIFF Super Cup 2025–26 at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, Goa, on Monday, October 27.

The Islanders looked confident and composed from the start. Jorge Pereyra Díaz, Vikram Partap Singh, and Jorge Ortiz all scored in the first half, giving Mumbai City a solid 3-0 lead. Despite a stronger second-half effort from the newcomers, Andrei Alba’s penalty was only a consolation as Vikram added his second goal in stoppage time to seal the win.

Early Domination from Mumbai City

Mumbai City set the tone early with precise passing and attacking intent. The breakthrough came in just the sixth minute. Lallianzuala Chhangte delivered a curling free-kick from the right, and Tiri flicked a clever header inside the box. Jorge Pereyra Díaz controlled it on his chest before slotting past goalkeeper Karanjit Singh to make it 1-0.

The Islanders continued to dominate possession and doubled their lead soon after. Forward Vikram Partap Singh picked up a pass from Jon Toral, cut inside from the right, and curled a powerful strike into the top corner.

Ortiz Extends the Lead

Mumbai City’s pressure continued to expose Sporting Club Delhi’s fragile defence. Ortiz came close with a long-range effort before finding success minutes later. In the 32nd minute, Vikram dashed down the left flank and sent in a low cross. Though Karanjit managed to parry it away, Ortiz was alert to tap in the rebound, making it 3-0 before halftime.

Sporting Club Delhi tried to respond through Andrei Alba, whose 29th-minute free-kick narrowly missed the target. But Mumbai City’s organised backline and high pressing gave the Red Brigade little space to operate.

Delhi Fight Back in the Second Half

After the break, Sporting Club Delhi looked more determined. They used the left flank effectively through Isaac Vanmalsawma and Augustine Lalrochana, who combined to deliver several dangerous crosses. However, Akash Mishra was alert at the back, clearing crucial balls to deny them any breakthrough.

The Red Brigade continued to push forward and earned a penalty in the 75th minute. Dhruv Alva brought down Ayush Adhikari inside the box, and Andrei Alba stepped up to calmly convert the spot-kick into the bottom corner — scoring Sporting Club Delhi’s first-ever goal in the tournament.

Vikram Seals It Late

Despite Delhi’s late resurgence, Mumbai City remained clinical. Deep into stoppage time, Brandon Fernandes played a precise through ball to Vikram Partap Singh, who sprinted forward and unleashed a fierce shot. The ball hit the underside of the crossbar and went in, completing his brace and confirming a 4-1 triumph for the Islanders.

Mumbai City FC’s strong performance highlighted their attacking depth and teamwork. With players like Vikram, Díaz, and Ortiz in top form, the Islanders sent a clear message to their rivals early in the Super Cup campaign.
