AIFF Super Cup 2025-26: Punjab FC Seal Commanding 3–0 Win to Start Campaign in Style
Punjab FC began their AIFF Super Cup 2025–26 campaign with a dominant 3–0 win over Gokulam Kerala FC in their Group C opener at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim.

Punjab FC made a perfect start to their AIFF Super Cup 2025–26 campaign by defeating Gokulam Kerala FC with ease. They looked sharper, more organized, and hungrier right from the opening whistle.

The match carried extra emotion as both clubs had once shared a fierce rivalry in the I-League. However, Punjab FC quickly took charge and controlled the tempo throughout the first half.

Early Own Goal Sets the Tone

Punjab FC wasted no time making an impact. In just the second minute, Muhammad Suhail made a quick run down the left wing and sent a low cross across the goal. Gokulam defender Gursimrat Singh tried to intercept but accidentally diverted the ball into his own net past goalkeeper Shibinraj Kunniyil.

The early own goal stunned the Malabarians, who struggled to recover from the early setback.

Punjab Double the Lead Through Prabhu

Punjab FC continued to dominate after the opener. Their control paid off again in the 11th minute. From a corner delivered by Princeton Rebello, Nikhil Prabhu rose above his marker and headed firmly into the bottom corner to make it 2–0.

The Shers were fully in command at that point, dictating play and finding plenty of space in midfield. Gokulam Kerala tried to fight back through winger Samuel Lyngdoh, who looked lively on the right flank.

In the 28th minute, Eduardo Martínez came close to pulling one back for Gokulam when his curling free-kick beat the keeper but struck the crossbar.

Rebello Seals the Win Before Half-Time

Punjab FC refused to slow down. Just before the break, in the 43rd minute, Muhammad Suhail laid off the ball neatly to Rebello at the edge of the box. Rebello struck a powerful right-footed shot past Shibinraj to make it 3–0.

The goal effectively sealed the contest before halftime and left Gokulam Kerala looking shell-shocked.

Gokulam Show Fight But Punjab Stay Solid

After the restart, Gokulam Kerala showed more intent. Juan Carlos Rico Azorín and Alfred Moya tried to inject energy into their attack, but Punjab’s defense stayed compact.

Goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh played a key role, making two sharp saves to deny Gokulam any chance of a comeback. His composure ensured Punjab FC kept their clean sheet intact.

Red Card Ends Gokulam’s Hopes

Gokulam Kerala’s night ended on a sour note. In the 85th minute, substitute Trijoy Dias received a straight red card for a reckless high-boot challenge. The dismissal reduced them to ten men and ended any remaining hopes of a late revival.

Punjab FC then calmly saw out the remaining minutes to secure a comfortable 3–0 victory and a strong start to their Super Cup campaign.
