East Bengal FC revived their semi-final hopes with a 4-0 win over Chennaiyin FC in Group A of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26. The match took place at the GMC Stadium on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The victory also ended Chennaiyin’s campaign after two straight losses.
Bipin Singh Leads the Charge
Thounaojam Bipin Singh scored twice and led East Bengal’s attack. Kevin Sibille opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Hiroshi Ibusuki later added his debut goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Chennaiyin started the match aggressively. They pressed high and controlled possession. Farukh Choudhary nearly gave them the lead when he dribbled past three defenders. Prabhsukhan Singh Gill made a sharp save at the near post to deny him.
East Bengal struggled early. They failed to keep the ball and stayed pinned inside their own half during the first 25 minutes.
Sibille and Bipin Turn the Game
The match changed suddenly in the 35th minute. Mahesh Singh swung in a free-kick from the left. Kevin Sibille rose highest and headed the ball past Nawaz to make it 1-0.
That goal lifted East Bengal’s confidence. Just four minutes later, Mahesh created another chance from the right. His low cross found Bipin Singh, who timed his run perfectly and slotted the ball past Nawaz.
Chennaiyin were stunned. In stoppage time, Bipin struck again. He ran down the left, opened his body, and curled the ball into the far corner. Nawaz touched it but couldn’t stop it.
East Bengal scored three goals in eleven minutes and took full control before halftime.
Chennaiyin Fail to Respond
Chennaiyin tried to fight back in the second half. They kept possession but lacked sharpness in attack. East Bengal stayed solid and slowed the pace.
The Red and Golds absorbed pressure and waited for counter-attacks. Chennaiyin failed to test the goalkeeper again.
Ibusuki Seals the Win
In the 85th minute, Hiroshi Ibusuki almost scored a stunning long-range goal. His shot hit the crossbar and bounced out.
He got another chance in stoppage time. Mandar Rao Dessai fouled Edmund Lalrindika inside the box. The referee awarded a penalty. Hiroshi stepped up and calmly sent Nawaz the wrong way.
The goal sealed East Bengal’s 4-0 win and knocked Chennaiyin out of the tournament.
