Punjab FC extended their fine run in the AIFF Super Cup 2025–26 with a commanding 3-0 win over Mohammedan Sporting at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, Goa, on Sunday, November 2, 2025. The victory kept them unbeaten and firmly on course for the semifinals.
Early control and creative attack
From the very beginning, Punjab FC looked confident and well-organized. Their attacking combination of Daniel Ramírez, Ninthoinganba Meetei, Manglenthang Kipgen, and Muhammad Suhail kept the Mohammedan defence under constant pressure.
Punjab almost took the lead midway through the first half when Bijoy Varghese’s strong header from a free-kick went narrowly wide. Soon after, goalkeeper Subhajit Bhattacharjee made a fine save to stop a sharp attempt from Ninthoi.
Ninthoi opens the scoring
Punjab’s persistence finally paid off in the 26th minute. Daniel Ramírez played a clever left-footed through ball that sliced open the defence. Ninthoi, timing his diagonal run perfectly, showed great composure as he placed the ball past the advancing Bhattacharjee to make it 1-0.
Zeljković doubles the lead before halftime
Punjab FC continued to attack with intensity and found their second goal just before halftime. In the 42nd minute, full-back Khaiminthang Lhungdim delivered a curling cross to the far post. Ninthoi headed the ball back across goal, where an unmarked Samir Zeljković connected with a half-hit shot that still had enough power to roll into the bottom corner. Punjab went into the break leading 2-0 and in complete control.
Kipgen seals the win
After halftime, Punjab FC continued to dominate possession while Mohammedan Sporting struggled to create any real chances. Their efforts paid off again in the 72nd minute with another flowing move. Substitute Leon Augustine raced down the wing and squared the ball to Manglenthang Kipgen, who calmly side-footed it into the corner to make it 3-0.
A complete team performance
Mohammedan Sporting had no way back from there. Punjab FC stayed solid in defence, with their backline maintaining shape and control throughout. Goalkeeper Muheet Shabir had very little to do as Punjab wrapped up another impressive win.
With this result, Punjab FC climbed to six points from two matches in Group C, putting them within touching distance of the semifinals. Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting’s campaign ended in disappointment after two straight defeats.
