A horrific road accident claimed at least 24 lives in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on Monday morning. A speeding truck collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Khanapur Gate, under the Chevella police station limits, police said.
The impact of the crash was severe. Many passengers died instantly as the truck and bus collided with great force.
How the Accident Happened
According to police reports, the truck was carrying gravel and moving on the wrong side of the road. The TSRTC bus was carrying about 70 passengers and was heading to Hyderabad when the speeding truck from the opposite direction hit it and fell over the bus.
Officials said the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but early findings suggest over-speeding and loss of control by the truck driver led to the accident.
Among those killed were both drivers—the bus driver and the truck driver—a ten-month-old baby, and the child’s mother. Eyewitnesses described the sight as “heart-breaking.” They said passengers screamed for help while nearby villagers rushed to assist.
Injured Taken to Hospitals
Police said all injured passengers were quickly shifted to the government hospital in Chevella. Those with serious injuries were later moved to hospitals in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Authorities warned that the death toll could rise, as several victims remain in critical condition.
CM Revanth Reddy Expresses Shock
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep grief over the tragedy. In a statement issued by his office, he said he was “deeply shocked” by the accident. The chief minister directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy to ensure immediate rescue and relief operations.
He also instructed ministers and senior officials to visit the site and oversee rescue work. The statement added that the CM had ordered officials to “make arrangements to immediately transport the injured from the bus accident to Hyderabad and provide them with better medical treatment.”
Investigation and Relief Efforts Continue
Rescue teams, local police, and medical staff continue to work at the site, removing debris and helping survivors. Authorities are examining road conditions and vehicle speed data to confirm the cause of the collision.
Officials said they will take strict action if negligence or reckless driving is found to be responsible for the tragedy.
