RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday unveiled a major welfare plan named the ‘Mai-Bahin Maan Yojana’. He said the scheme would start immediately after his party forms the government in Bihar.
Speaking on the last day of campaigning for the first phase of assembly elections, Yadav announced that the scheme will begin on Makar Sankranti, January 14. Under it, every woman in the state would receive Rs 30,000.
“We will form our government, and as soon as it happens, on Makar Sankranti, the Mai-Bahin Maan Yojana will be implemented,” Yadav said.
Promises for Government Employees and Farmers
Tejashwi also listed other key promises that his party plans to introduce if elected. He said the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) would be restored for state employees.
He also assured that all government workers, including police officers, would be posted within 70 kilometres of their home districts to make their lives easier.
For farmers, Yadav pledged a significant support boost — an additional Rs 300 per quintal over the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy and a Rs 400 bonus per quintal over the MSP for wheat.
Focus on Women and Employment
Highlighting the importance of women voters, Yadav said their support would play a key role in bringing change to Bihar. Throughout his campaign, he has repeatedly called women the “driving force” of development.
Earlier, Yadav had promised that every household in Bihar would have at least one government job if the RJD came to power. He described this as a “historic and revolutionary” move to end unemployment.
“As soon as the government is formed, within 20 months, there will be no household in Bihar without a government job,” he said while addressing supporters.
A Promise of Swift Action
Tejashwi said that his first act after taking office would be to approve the job proposal in the very first cabinet meeting. He called it only the start of many welfare measures his government plans to implement.
“This is the first announcement, not the final one,” Yadav said, signaling that more promises and schemes would follow once RJD forms the government.
