Deliberate Plot Behind Red Fort Explosion, PM Modi Warns Conspirators Won’t Be Spared
Security agencies say the Red Fort car blast was a planned terror attack. The explosive-packed car waited for hours before striking at a busy evening hour near the Red Fort Metro gate.

Security officials believe the explosion near the Red Fort was a deliberate terror plot aimed at causing heavy damage. Investigators say the car, loaded with explosives, was driven from Faridabad by a man named Umar. He parked near the monument and waited for about three hours. Then, at around 6:30 pm, the vehicle detonated just outside the Red Fort Metro station gate.

That moment was a crowded one. It coincided with the evening aarti at the Gauri Shankar temple in Chandni Chowk. Mondays see the temple full of devotees, and people also begin leaving for the metro at that hour. The blast at a red light next to the metro gate happened during the area’s peak rush. Officials say the location was chosen not only for casualties but also as a symbolic message because it was right outside the Red Fort.

Prime Minister warns conspirators will be punished

From Bhutan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning on Tuesday: “Our agencies will go to the root of this conspiracy. Those who plotted this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice." He will return to India to chair an important security meeting soon.

Observers note the tone echoes Modi’s earlier warning after the Pahalgam attack, when he vowed to pursue plotters relentlessly. That earlier pursuit led to Operation Sindoor, which targeted suspects believed to be Pakistani. This time, initial reports say the attackers are from Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, but agencies are investigating whether groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) or actors across the border directed the plot. JeM had earlier vowed revenge after family members of Masood Azhar were killed in a strike, and tensions remain high. India has said Operation Sindoor is paused, not ended, and any new major attack could be treated as an act of war.

Intelligence agencies racing to connect the dots

Security and intelligence teams are urgently piecing together evidence ahead of the Prime Minister’s return. CNN-News18 reported that agencies are working to link leads before Modi attends meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Security and the Union Cabinet on Wednesday evening. After the Pahalgam attack, Modi gave the armed forces a free hand to act; a similar direction could follow this week.

Ministers vow thorough probe

Union minister Suresh Gopi commented on the probe, saying: “We cannot openly speak about how the investigation is going. We have got guidelines from Centre about it. Even if it’s something we know, we should not be disclosing it. It’s a very unusual and unfortunate incident. What we should understand is that in the last 30 days alone, our security agencies have busted such attempts eight times, including in places like Rajasthan. With the help of national security agencies, eight attempts were busted. On Monday, this blast took place in a running vehicle."

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed sorrow and promised justice. “I want to assure my countrymen that those responsible for this will be brought to justice," he said. He added, “The country’s leading investigative agencies are conducting a thorough inquiry. Those responsible will not be spared under any circumstances."

What investigators are focusing on

Investigators are treating the blast as a well-planned operation. They are examining the car’s route, who supplied the explosives, any local help, and whether an external group ordered the attack. The timing, location, and the vehicle’s slow movement before the blast point, officials say, to careful planning intended to hit crowds and send a strong message.

What comes next

Security agencies will continue to investigate and gather evidence. The Prime Minister’s security meetings may set the tone for how India responds. Meanwhile, authorities are expected to tighten checks and pursue all leads until those behind the attack are caught and prosecuted.
