External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Canada to take part in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, held from November 11 to 12. He is visiting at the invitation of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
The Ministry of External Affairs said Jaishankar’s visit shows India’s strong commitment to work with global partners. It also highlights India’s effort to give a stronger voice to the Global South in international discussions.
G7 and Partner Countries Join Talks
The G7 meeting includes foreign ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Several outreach nations — India, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine — are also part of the discussions.
Jaishankar is expected to meet Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand during the summit. This will be their second meeting this year, showing continued engagement between the two sides.
Jaishankar Holds Bilateral Meetings
Jaishankar has already met UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. They discussed cooperation in trade, technology, education, and global security.
During his meeting with Yvette Cooper, both sides reaffirmed the “India-UK Vision 2035.” The plan aims to build a modern partnership that uses new technology and supports collaboration in education and research.
