Norway Seal FIFA World Cup 2026 Spot with 4-1 Win, Italy Pushed into Playoffs Again
Norway crushed Italy’s World Cup hopes with a powerful 4-1 win that secured their first World Cup appearance since 1998 and pushed Italy into the playoffs again.

Norway booked their place at the 2026 World Cup after beating Italy 4-1 in their final group match. The win sent Italy, who already missed the last two World Cups, into the playoffs again. Norway will return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Norway finished their qualifying campaign with eight straight wins. They topped the group with a perfect record and ended six points ahead of Italy, who now face the playoffs for the third time in a row.

Italy needed a nine-goal win because of Norway’s strong goal difference. They started well. Francesco Pio Esposito scored from close range just after the 10th minute.

Norway Turns the Game Around

Norway came out stronger in the second half. Nusa equalised in the 63rd minute with a sharp left-footed strike inside the area. Norway controlled the match from that point. Italy paid the price in the 78th minute when they left Erling Haaland unmarked. He met a cross and volleyed the ball into the net with ease.

A minute later, Haaland struck again. He pushed his goal tally for the campaign to 16. Jørgen Strand Larsen then added Norway’s fourth in stoppage time. The visitors showed they are ready to compete hard at next year’s tournament.

Ireland Earn Playoff Spot

Ireland secured second place in the group with 10 points. They reached the playoffs after beating Hungary 3-2 with a dramatic goal in the sixth minute of added time.
