India Stunned 0-1 by Bangladesh in Asian Cup Qualifier
India slipped to a disappointing 0-1 defeat against Bangladesh in the Asian Cup qualifiers after an early defensive lapse proved costly.

India faced a disappointing 0-1 defeat to Bangladesh in their AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier. Shekh Morsalin scored the only goal in the first half, giving Bangladesh a historic win.

With this loss, India remain at just 2 points from 5 matches. Khalid Jamil’s team is still searching for its first victory in the group. Bangladesh, meanwhile, celebrated their first win of the qualifiers and now have 5 points from 5 games.

India Start Strong but Concede Early

India opened the match with intent. They pressed high, controlled the ball, and dictated the tempo. But Bangladesh punished a rare defensive error in the 11th minute. They converted their first real chance and took the lead against the run of play.

Chhangte Nearly Levels the Score

India pushed for an equalizer. Lallianzuala Chhangte came closest in the 31st minute. He tried a long-range right-footed shot when the Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marma was caught off his line. The ball seemed destined for the goal, but Hamza Choudhury made a crucial headed clearance to keep India out.

Second-Half Substitutions Lift India’s Tempo

India returned from halftime with more sharpness and control. The substitutions brought new life into the attack. Debutant Mohammed Sanan impressed immediately with his pace and direct runs. Midfielder Brison Fernandes also added energy in the middle.

Sanan constantly troubled the Bangladesh defence. His movement and pressure stretched the backline, forcing the defenders to stay alert.

Bangladesh Hold Firm Under Pressure

India continued to create chances from both flanks, especially in the final 20 minutes. Despite their heavy pressure, Bangladesh defended with discipline. They blocked shots, cleared crosses, and prevented India from scoring a late equalizer.

The Blue Tigers pushed hard until the last second, including the six minutes of added time, but they could not find the final touch needed to score.

India Aim to Finish on a Positive Note

India will now look to end their qualifying campaign on a strong note. Their final group-stage match will be against Hong Kong, where they hope to sign off with a win.
