Jaiswal Says Rohit’s Scoldings Come with ‘Love’, Credits Rohit and Kohli for Century
Jaiswal scored his maiden ODI hundred in Visakhapatnam and credited Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for guiding him through the chase.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made the most of his opportunity in the three-match ODI series against South Africa. He scored his first ODI century during the chase in Visakhapatnam and anchored India’s dominant nine-wicket win. He built strong partnerships with Rohit Sharma first and later with Virat Kohli, ensuring India controlled the match from the start.

Over the years, Jaiswal has developed a close working relationship with Rohit. Both cricketers share Mumbai roots, and Jaiswal has grown under Rohit's mentorship while opening for India. Because of this connection, many within Indian cricket view Jaiswal as a key part of the team’s future.

Rohit’s Unique Style as a Mentor

Jaiswal spoke at the Agenda Aaj Tak event and described the special bond he shares with Rohit. He highlighted how Rohit’s personality combines calmness with firmness, especially when guiding younger players.

He said, “Every time Rohit bhai scolds us, it has a lot of love and indulgence mixed with it.”
Jaiswal added that when Rohit does not say anything, it actually makes players wonder if something is wrong. “In fact, if Rohit bhai isn’t scolding you, there is a sense of unease as to what happened, why isn’t he scolding. Has he felt bad about my action.”

Even after stepping down as captain, Rohit remains a major influence in the dressing room. He continues to set the tone for India’s batting group with his experience and leadership.

Kohli’s Support Also Crucial

Jaiswal also acknowledged Virat Kohli’s role in helping him navigate pressure situations. Alongside Rohit, Kohli forms the backbone of India’s top order. Their presence gives younger players a sense of security.

Jaiswal recalled Rohit’s advice during the Vizag chase. “When I was playing the third ODI, Rohit bhai told me to relax and remain calm and take time as he would take risks. How many people will do that?”
He said Kohli gave him clear, simple goals to stay focused. “Similarly, Virat paaji gave me small targets and told me that we will have to win it ourselves.”

A Promising Future Ahead

Jaiswal currently serves as the reserve opener in ODIs behind Rohit Sharma and newly appointed captain Shubman Gill. However, this century marks a major step in his development. His performance gives India more depth at the top as the team builds toward future tournaments.
