Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday called for closer unity between Ukraine and Poland. He warned that Russia could eventually target Poland if its invasion of Ukraine is not stopped.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Warsaw with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, Zelenskyy stressed that the security of both countries is closely linked.
“Without Ukraine’s independence, Moscow will inevitably turn its attention to Poland. That is why it is vital that we continue to exist, that you continue to exist, and that both Ukraine and Poland endure. It is crucial that we stand together,” Zelenskyy said.
Visit aims to secure long-term ties with Poland
Zelenskyy’s visit to Warsaw comes at a sensitive political moment. He wants to ensure that Ukraine’s relationship with Poland remains strong, regardless of any future change in leadership in Warsaw.
Currently, Poland’s government strongly supports Ukraine. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has emerged as one of Kyiv’s most vocal supporters on the global stage.
Political uncertainty in Poland raises concerns
However, recent presidential election results suggest that Poland’s former nationalist ruling party, Law and Justice, could return to power in 2027. Karol Nawrocki, who won the presidency with backing from Law and Justice, has so far taken a cautious and reserved approach toward Ukraine.
As a result, Zelenskyy appears eager to reinforce ties early and prevent any cooling of relations in the future.
Ukraine offers security cooperation
During the press conference, Zelenskyy said Ukraine could share valuable experience with Poland. He noted that Ukraine could advise Warsaw on defending against drone attacks and strengthening security in the Baltic Sea region.
Ukraine has gained extensive battlefield knowledge during the war, which could help Poland improve its defensive readiness.
Call for business cooperation and reconstruction support
Zelenskyy also focused on economic cooperation. He invited Polish companies to take part in rebuilding Ukraine once the war ends.
In addition, he formally invited President Nawrocki to visit Kyiv. He said strong ties between Ukraine and Poland must continue, especially as Russia’s war against Ukraine continues.
Through the visit, Zelenskyy sent a clear message that Ukraine sees Poland as a vital partner for security, recovery, and long-term regional stability.
