SG Pipers delivered a calm and well-organised performance to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over JSW Soorma Hockey Club in a closely fought Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025-26 match on Wednesday. An early goal from captain Navneet Kaur proved to be the difference as the table-toppers registered their second straight win.
Fast Start Rewards SG Pipers
SG Pipers began the match with discipline and clarity, moving the ball quickly and with clear intent. Their positive approach paid off early in the contest when captain Navneet Kaur struck in the fourth minute.
Showing individual brilliance, Navneet intercepted a pass in her own half before launching a powerful forward run. She weaved past two Soorma defenders near the shooting circle and finished with a composed shot to give her team an early lead.
Pipers Defend Well Under Pressure
JSW Soorma Hockey Club tried to respond with several attacking moves, but the SG Pipers’ defence stood strong. The backline worked together efficiently, cutting out passing lanes and clearing danger whenever needed.
Despite sustained pressure from Soorma, the Pipers protected their narrow lead and went into the first-quarter break with a 1-0 advantage.
Missed Chances Cost Soorma
Soorma increased the tempo in the second quarter and earned the first penalty corner of the match while searching for an equaliser. However, they failed to convert the chance.
Reading the shift in momentum, SG Pipers focused on controlling possession through quick and accurate passing. This forced Soorma to chase the ball and slowed down their attacking rhythm.
Towards the end of the second quarter, Soorma won another penalty corner but a poor trap spoiled the opportunity. With no further goals, SG Pipers headed into the half-time break holding a deserved 1-0 lead.
Strong Defensive Display After the Break
After the restart, JSW Soorma Hockey Club came out aggressively, pressing hard for the equaliser. They repeatedly tested the SG Pipers’ defence during the third quarter.
However, the Pipers remained composed and organised at the back. Their disciplined defending helped them absorb sustained pressure and keep Soorma scoreless through the third quarter.
Late Pressure, Same Result
The pattern continued in the final quarter. Soorma pushed forward with urgency and earned a third penalty corner, but once again failed to make it count.
SG Pipers also had chances to extend their lead. They earned two penalty corners in quick succession and Navneet Kaur had a clear one-on-one opportunity, but Soorma goalkeeper Savita made a smart save to keep her side in the contest.
Soorma’s late surge resulted in a fourth penalty corner, but the variation did not trouble the Pipers’ defence. SG Pipers held firm in the closing minutes to seal a narrow but well-earned 1-0 victory.
Pipers Stay Top of the Table
With this win, SG Pipers remain at the top of the points table, having secured two victories from two matches. The result highlighted their strong defensive structure and ability to protect a lead under pressure.
