The Indian Embassy in Tehran has released a new advisory for Indian nationals as protests continue to spread across Iran. The warning comes amid a rapidly changing security situation in the country.
Indians Asked to Leave Iran Using Available Transport
Referring to its earlier advisory issued on January 5, 2025, the embassy strongly advised Indian citizens currently in Iran to leave as soon as possible. This includes students, pilgrims, businesspersons, and tourists.
The embassy said Indians should use all available means of travel, including commercial flights, due to the “evolving situation” in the country.
Caution Urged as Protests Continue
At the same time, the embassy repeated its appeal for caution. It asked Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in Iran to stay away from areas where protests or demonstrations are taking place.
The advisory also urged people to remain alert and closely follow local news updates. In addition, Indians were asked to stay in regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran for timely information and assistance.
Embassy Advises Carrying Documents at All Times
The embassy stressed the importance of keeping essential documents ready. It specifically asked Indian nationals to carry their travel and immigration papers at all times.
“All Indian nationals in Iran are requested to also have their travel and immigration documents, including passports and IDs, readily available with them. They are requested to contact the Indian Embassy for any assistance in this regard,” the advisory said.
Emergency Helpline Numbers Shared
To support Indian citizens during the crisis, the embassy shared emergency contact details.
“The emergency contact helplines of the Indian Embassy are provided below: Mobile Numbers: +989128109115; +989128109109; +989128109102; +989932179359. Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in,” the embassy said.
Registration With Embassy Made Mandatory
Meanwhile, the embassy asked all Indian nationals in Iran who have not yet registered to do so immediately through the official portal: https://www.meaers.com/request/home.
“The link is also available on the Embassy website. In case any Indian national is unable to register due to internet disruptions in Iran, their families in India are requested to do so,” the embassy added.
Protests, Blackout, and Rising Death Toll
Iran has witnessed widespread protests over the past two weeks. During this period, authorities have imposed a communication blackout in many areas, limiting access to the internet and phone services.
The situation has drawn international attention, with growing pressure on Iran over its response to demonstrators. According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, at least 2,571 people have been killed during the protests as of early Wednesday.
